Think of a number........that's one you`ve heard often ! But I want you to think of a 4 PEOPLE - and then I am going to prove something to you from the Bible.
(The following isn`t in the sermon by the way ! It`s just something I want you to try out ) ! Think of a person. That person must be someone who has gone to your Church or another Church, they were saved and led a very godly life, and have now gone home to be with the Saviour. Think of that person and call that person 1 ok ?
Now, think of a person from history who blazed a trail for God - a missionary - a preacher. Call that person 2
Think of a person whom you have known, or known of, and they didn`t leave behind a Christian testimony. Someone who lived an ungodly life, a life of wickedness, and had no time for the gospel. It is someone also who has passed from this scene of time. Call that person 3
Finally, (and thanks for bearing with me) - think of a person from history who was evil, full of bitterness and hatred, and lived a most wicked life. Call that person 4
ok, you have got those 4 people in your memory. 1,2,3,4
Now, I want you, from these four names, to think which names bring the most blessed thoughts to your mind, and those on whom you would find pleasure taking some time to think about..........you can choose as many as you want, out of 1,2,3,4
Lastly, out of these four names, think of which names send a chill down your spine, names which you wouldn`t want to dwell upon, or names which bring a distinct sadness to your heart.
Ok..... got them ????
The names you preferred to think on were 1 & 2, and those which you didn`t find pleasure thinking on were 3 & 4 - ok ?? Am I right ?
And why ??
Because the Bible is correct !
"The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot. " (Proverbs 10:7)
Come join us as the Rev Elliott looks at this subject of the just and the wicked. What an interesting subject it is ! Did you know, that if you are saved, (and therefore are "just" in God`s Eyes), that :
"Blessings are upon the head of the just: " (Proverbs 10:6a)
Do you know what the meaning behind that is ? It gives the meaning that blessings come upon you like a crown that sits upon the head !
Isn`t that something ! No wonder someone wrote the chorus :
"I am blessed, I am blessed,
Every day I live for Jesus I am blessed
From I wake up in the morning,
Till I lay my head to rest -
I am blessed - I am blessed "
Isn`t that something to rejoice in !
This is a sermon that takes a very close look at the lives of the just and the wicked. There are no in - betweens here. A person is either just or wicked in God's Eyes - either saved or unsaved.
This sermon will be a benefit to both the saved and unsaved. It will encourage the believer to keep walking down that path of righteousness, and neither turn to the left nor the right. It will also challenge those who are living without God to consider what their final end will be.
Finally....think of a Person......think of THE PERSON.....think of "THE MAN CHRIST JESUS" (1st Timothy 2:5) - the one mediator between God and men - verily God and verily man.
Now there are some blessed thoughts to keep you going for the rest of the night ...... and all eternity !
"Jesus is the sweetest Name I know
And He's just the same as His lovely Name.
That's the reason why I love Him so -
For Jesus is the sweetest Name I know." !
