God's Existence is NOT Dependent Upon Man

Psalm 14:1 reads, "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.'" Whether applied to the atheist who denies God's existence or to the practical atheist who lives as if God does not exist, the verdict remains the same. It's foolish, it's absurd, it's self bent on self-destruction to observe our surroundings, the human condition, and the universal code of morality and then conclude there is no God. It's especially absurd in light of God's fingerprints left upon His creation. Psalm 19:1 says, "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork."

The remaining portion of Psalm 14:1 describes how one's life tumbles downward when one decides to either deny God's existence or live as if God does not matter. The Bible describes our state apart from God as corrupt, doing abominable deeds, and not doing good.

Psalm 14:2 moves from stating the human condition apart from God to God's own perspective of the human condition apart from Him. Verse 2 opens, "The Lord looks down from heaven..." It seems that vv2-3 essentially communicate that God finds humanity exactly how we are apart from Him. Verse 3 is basically a restatement of verse 1. In other words, God looks on us who live apart from Him, and yes, He finds us just how we are-corrupt and not doing good.

There is a massive implication here as well. Notice the relation between v1 and v2. In v1 the fool says, "There is no God." In v2, "The Lord looks down from heaven..." Did you catch that? God's existence, God's worth, God's glory is NOT dependent upon man's thought of Him!!!!!!

The foolish man says there is no God out there, and his foolish thoughts will never change the fact that there is a God out there!!! Living without God does not negate God, does not remove God. Just because society decides to relegate God to the sideline doesn’t in any way mean that God is now on the sideline! He’s still God. He’s still in control. He’s still sovereign. He’s still working out His plans and His purposes for His glory and the good of His people.

God's existence does not depend upon whether or not man believes in Him or whether or not man rightfully, joyfully worships Him! Not believing in God does not cause Him to vanish, Believing in God does not cause Him to appear. Let us be done with our foolish arrogant view of God! His existence is not dependent upon our belief in Him. We can't remove Him nor can we create Him.

However, since He is God and we are His creation, the dependency does move in the other direction! We are utterly dependent upon Him for every single thing, even our very next breath. Far more important, we are entirely dependent upon His grace, given through His Son, for forgiveness of our sin toward Him and eternal life with Him.

If you deny Him or live as if He does not exist or does not matter, that's the most foolish thing you could ever do! Why? Because as you shout out your denial of Him, He's not going anywhere. He's still looking down from heaven!
