“The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh forwardness.” Proverbs 10:32
This passage teaches the great need for discernment in our words. Words cannot be retrieved once they have left our lips. Just this morning, I ruefully remembered something that I had said in passing conversation yesterday. While it did not result in great harm, it had the potential to cause hurt. When I made the comment, I had no ill intent. In fact, it was not until sometime later that I realized how foolish it was. We have all had this experience. Once again, we are pointed to our constant need for God’s grace to forgive our foolish words and prevent collateral damage, and for His grace to provide the wisdom in the moment to discern whether to speak and what to speak. Our constant prayer for communication should be, “Let the words of my mouth…be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord..”
