“The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.” Proverbs 10:20
There are many warnings in Scripture about the sinful use of the tongue. While this is true, we must not view the ability to communicate as something that is evil. God highly values Godly communication. It is likened to precious, expensive silver. In other words, it is uncommon and notable. Therefore, we should value it too. Not only should we appreciate being the recipients of edifying communication, we should actively seek to communicate with others in an edifying manner. Here are a few uncommon, notable things our words should regularly express:
Thanksgiving
Praise
Counsel
Encouragement
Comfort
Truth
I challenge you to pick one of these traits, and determine to use it in conversation today. You may never know the impact that your words may have in the lives of those you communicate with.
