"Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked." Proverbs 10:6

The purpose of this statement is to contrast the just and the wicked. It is said of the just that blessings are upon their head. Concerning the wicked, rather than receiving blessings, they spend their time trying to conceal or being silenced by their wicked intents or actions. This speaks of a noticeable difference between two types of people that is a result of their embracing or rejecting righteousness and wisdom.

Notice that blessings are upon the head of the just. These blessings are visible and plain to see. This does not necessarily speak of material wealth or riches, but joy, contentment, and peace that come through living a life of obedience to God. The wicked, on the other hand, have their mouths covered by their wickedness. The picture here is that the wicked are always speaking in a way that tries to conceal their wicked intent, or past wicked actions. It also pictures the mouth as a fountain. Every word that is coming out of the wicked person’s mouth has been filtered by their heart of violence and wickedness. We can contrast this and notice that the words that are coming out of the just man’s mouth are being filtered by a heart that is full of blessings and righteousness.
