"You and I stand on the verge of an eternal world, and unless God himself say to the soul, "I am thy salvation," we must eternally perish. The great body of professors of religion are quite satisfied in talking about or hearing of a salvation. They tell us what great salvation God has accomplished for us, if we will but close in with it, if we will but do our part; and other professors please themselves with talking about the discriminating doctrines of the gospel, and more or less ridicule the inward teachings and workings of God the Spirit in the soul, and the feelings of the poor sinner under them. But whenever the Lord the Spirit circumcises the heart of a sinner by the knife of the law, he lays his heart open, and lets the contents of the heart begin to ooze up with abominable filth, guilt, and horrors. Nothing will then do for the soul short of the Lord speaking, and saying to such a soul, "I am thy salvation."

"IT IS GOD WHO JUSTIFIES" (Romans 8:33)
Behold the eternal security of the weakest believer in Jesus. The act of justification, once passed under the great seal of the resurrection of Christ, God can never revoke without denying Himself. Here is our safety. Here is the ground of our dauntless challenge, "Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God who justifies." What can I need more? What more can I ask? If God, the God of spotless purity, the God of inflexible righteousness, justifies me, "who is he that condemns?" Sin may condemn, but it is God that justifies! The law may alarm, but it is God that justifies! Satan may accuse, but it is God that justifies! Death may terrify, but it is God that justifies! "If GOD is for us, who can be against us?" Who will dare condemn the soul whom He justifies? How gloriously will this truth shine forth in the great day of judgment! Every accuser will then be dumb. Every tongue will then be silent. Nothing shall be laid to the charge of God's elect. GOD Himself shall pronounce them fully, and forever justified: "And those He justifies, He also glorifies."

THERE IS POWER IN THE BLOOD
The blood of the Savior, that is, His substitutionary death, was offered to the Lord as the payment price for the sins of His chosen people. You will notice in the Old Testament that every offering was presented to the Lord for His acceptance. It is written that even Cain "brought of the fruit of the ground an offering to the LORD" (Genesis 4:3), though his offering was rejected because there was no blood, that is, there was no satisfaction of justice, there was no death of an innocent victim in the stead of the guilty. The point is, however, his offering was rendered "to the LORD." No offering was ever brought to a man for his acceptance or rejection. All of the sacrifices were for the Lord, offered in compliance to His command in order to appease His wrath, each being a picture of the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ. When the Savior died, His death was for God. Christ laid down His life so that God could be "a just God and a Savior" (Isaiah 45:21). The Lord could only show mercy to the undeserving and declare them to be righteous upon this basis - He had to do something for Himself. God had to satisfy the requirements of His own law and justice, which He did in the death of His Son. There could be no salvation for the guilty apart from the cross-death of Christ. "Without shedding of blood is no remission" (Hebrews 9:22). By His death the Savior secured our peace with God. "And, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven" (Colossians 1:20).
Let it be clearly understood, therefore, that the power is in the blood alone - "for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul" (Leviticus 17:11). Man’s faith doesn’t add to the blood, activate the blood, assist the blood, empower the blood or give validity to the blood. The blood of Christ is not up for man’s acceptance or rejection. His blood was offered to God Who accepted it as full payment for the indebtedness of His people as is evident from the Savior’s resurrection, ascension and enthronement. The soul-cleansing blood of Christ, therefore, is not conditioned upon the sinner’s faith being added to it. Such is the power of the blood that faith flows from it, and regenerated sinners look to the blood of Christ alone as the remedy for their sinfulness, as the reason for the forgiveness of their sins and as the means whereby a holy God can declare them to be righteous.
