“And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched. Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched .” Mark 9:43,44 Jesus speaks words that melt our hearts and bring tears to our eyes; He also speaks words that jar us and awaken our attention from dullness. The above is one of the latter. While the Lord is not literally commanding us to practice self-mutilation, He is unapologetically calling us to declare absolute war on our sins!
Those whose end will be everlasting punishment love and are given to their sins. It should be expected that the trademark of those who belong to Christ are quite different. So different, in fact, that they are to be militant in combating the sins that plague them such as lust, pride, selfishness, gossip, gluttony, and so much more.
So, we have to be serious and diligent. Do whatever it takes to combat your sins. If it means a specific daily memory verse or prayer to overcome a particular sin, do it! If it means having someone you make yourself accountable to in some area, do it! War is not easy, but the rewards of greater fellowship with Jesus are more than worth it.
