Addendum: You may have noticed that May 19th had nothing after it. That was the big day for Ethan and Kim Champlin’s oldest son Seth and Lauren’s wedding. We really appreciated Mt. Zion Baptist Church live streaming it so that we in Suriname were able to watch the ceremony. Fortunately, the wedding, which was a lovely wedding, was not as long as the usual Suriname wedding, which is rarely below two hours for the ceremony, followed by the reception. Typically here they run from 7-9 pm, followed by a reception that will go past 11 pm. Praise the Lord, they did not have that schedule! Technology is amazing. We were able to see wedding pictures a few hours after the event in two of our grandchildren’s weddings before, and here we were able to watch 4000 miles away. Our congratulations to Seth and Lauren as they serve the Lord together as husband and wife.
Liz had to leave just at the end of the wedding, because she was scheduled to speak to the ladies of all the churches for the last time, and they chose that date. We were shocked. Over 100 ladies attended, and several more told me that they wanted to come but could not make it. Liz gave a number of points to the ladies encouraging their spiritual growth, their role in the home, and being faithful. Afterwards, they had some food as well, which ended up disappearing quickly because no one expected such a crowd. I had mentally expected 40-50 ladies. It was a real encouragement to us.
Today is a special day for Liz and me. Fifty-three years ago, on a hot Memorial Day, we were married in Canandaigua, New York, one week before my college graduation. A lot has happened in 53 years – medical school, internship, residency, fellowship in Internal Medicine, Liz getting her RN/BS and later a M.S. in Nursing Education, four children born, and then 5 years in Liberia, West Africa, where I was Professor of Internal Medicine. Back to the USA for 10 years where our kids went to Christian school and college, and I practiced with Southwestern Medical Clinic. Then to Suriname with Kim as a single missionary after the older two girls, Becky and Cathy were married in the USA, and settling down and raising their families there and serving in their local churches. Then Kim marrying Ethan Champlin and returning to Suriname, Marc finishing school and marrying Charin Auclair, and then off to Hungary as missionaries. And now 26 years in Suriname, and now 18 grandchildren, with 13 born overseas. We are now looking to return to the USA, this time to Crown College. We are greatly blessed, and ask the Lord for many more years to serve Him together.
We wish everyone a blessed day:
