"These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." (John 16:33) ***************************************************************************
The Old Testament is filled with gospel object lessons. These tell us, in picture and figure, of the Redeemer who would come and save His people from their sins by His substitutionary death upon the cross. Since our Lord Jesus Christ has already "fulfilled all righteousness" for His chosen people by His "obedience unto death, even the death of the cross," all of those old illustrations and types are done away with. However, the Lord has left His church with two gospel object lessons, baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Today we will eat the bread and drink the wine which set forth in figure, the body and blood of our Savior. We receive these elements mindful of our Lord’s words, "This do in remembrance of Me" (Luke 22:19). Immediately following this morning’s worship service we will have our monthly fellowship lunch downstairs. There will be no service this evening. ***************************************************************************
PRAISE TO JESUS TUNE: TAKE MY LIFE 77.77. WORDS BY JIM BYRD
1. To the Savior Christ the King, Adoration let us bring; What a kind and gracious Friend, May His praises never end, May His praises never end.
2. Not to us to Jesus be, Glory, praise and majesty; Come ye people now arise, Bless the Lord of earth and skies, Bless the Lord of earth and skies.
3. With His blood our debt He paid, Full redemption Jesus made; For His death upon the cross, Saved us from eternal loss, Saved us from eternal loss.
4. Evermore Christ reigns above, Author of redeeming love; There He governs on His throne, In a glory all His own, In a glory all His own.
"JUST AND JUSTIFIER" " Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time His righteousness: that He might be just, and the Justifier of him which believeth in Jesus" (Romans 3:24-26). God’s infinite holiness can accept nothing less than perfection, and His inflexible justice is sworn to punish every sin and violation of His holy law. Therefore, if His love is dedicated to deliver a single soul, it must be in a manner that does no dishonor to His holiness and justice. This can ONLY be accomplished if there is One who is equal to God’s infinite holiness and justice and capable of dying the death that the sins of those deserve whom God loves. God alone can satisfy His justice, but He cannot die. Man can die, but he cannot satisfy God’s justice. THE GOD-MAN, the LORD JESUS CHRIST ALONE, IS EQUAL TO BOTH TASKS! --J. D. Butler
*************************************************************************** THE SALVATION OF GOD’S PEOPLE ACCOMPLISHED
"Thou wentest forth for the salvation of Thy people, even for salvation with Thine anointed; Thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah" (Habakkuk 3:13). Christ Jesus did not leave heaven’s glories and come forth into this world to make a down payment on the salvation of spiritually bankrupt sinners. He did not come to do His part in salvation, leaving some aspect of it to be accomplished by the helpless. He did not come to assist sinners in salvation or instruct them in the art of self-salvation. He did not come to enable men to save themselves. He did not come to put all men in a savable position. He came into this world to save His people from their sins by rendering to the law of God its just demands: a perfect life and the satisfaction of infinite justice in that He died for the sins of His chosen, but fallen people. He was raised again because He did in fact, "save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21). "Christ hath once suffered for sins, the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18). His was not an attempt to save mankind, but the accomplishment, redemption and salvation of those given to Him in the election of grace. The sins of His people were imputed to Him and His righteousness has been imputed to His people. He was punished for our guilt, the laws’s demands have been upheld, justice has been satisfied and Christ was raised from the grave and exalted to ftlinethe highest heaven. All of His elect will be brought by the irresistible grace of His Spirit to believe Christ and enjoy the reward of His obedience, even an everlasting salvation. It is my delight to proclaim unto you that the work of redemption, righteousness, reconciliation and salvation has been accomplished by Christ. The sinner’s faith in the Savior is not an addition to His work; it is the result of that great work. –Pastor Jim Byrd
