“I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. ” Psalm 34:1 For the Christian, praise should not be uncommon; it should be normal. This is true, first and foremost, because God is worthy of our constant praise just based upon His own nature and character. Secondly, consider the great blessings from God to us—if we put what we deserve in one side of the scale and God’s blessings on the other side, we would see clearly that we owe Him continual praise.
Sadly, there are other things that too often are continually in our mouths—complaining, gossip, over-criticism of others, and harsh or unkind tones. Since what we say is a reflection of our hearts, this is reason to repent and to turn our hearts and lips away from the sinful and towards the righteous.
Praise Him for the big things—His power, creation, and forgiveness of our sins. Praise Him for the “little” things—a beautiful sunset, a short line at the bank, and food for your family. Praise Him in hard times—He is always faithful, always good, and always in control. Praise Him continually.
