New Morning Sermon Series This past Lord's Day morning, Pastor Shaw began a new sermon series which will take us through the dark days of Joshua and Judges and will end with the promises in Ruth. Judges in particular is a bleak period of Israelite history, but in the book of Ruth, we see the promise of a Savior renewed and strengthened.
But first, Joshua. The book may be divided into three main sections: conquer, divide, serve. In the first chapters, we read about the nation of Israel entering and conquering the land of Canaan, taking possession of the land. In the middle of the book, Israel divides the land according to God's directions. At the end of the book, Israel settles into its new home and focuses its energies on serving the Lord.
The book of Joshua is more than a series of stories, suitable for Sunday School lessons and morality plays. Rather, throughout the book, the Lord shows himself to be a powerful, faithful, covenant-keeping God. The book of Joshua is about the God of Israel. And the best news is that, by His grace, the God of Israel is OUR God.
We hope you'll join us to hear more about this powerful, faithful, covenant-keeping God by joining us at 10:30 every Lord's Day morning for worship. |
