"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." (Romans 12:19) *************************************************************************** BEHOLD THE GRACE OF GOD Tune to "THIS IS MY FATHER’S WORLD" SM/double Words by Jim Byrd
1. How could a holy God, Whose glory we extol; In justice ever save the lost, Forgive and make us whole? For sins against His law, Cannot unpunished go; But God in wisdom and in love, Purposed His grace to show.
2. O wondrous grace of God! He sent His own dear Son; For wretched sinners Jesus came, Poor rebels, lost, undone. Behold the Son of Man, Condemned and led away; He died to save His chosen bride, The sheep that went astray.
3. Redemption’s work is done, The Lamb of God has died; And with His sin-atoning death, Our God is satisfied. The Savior bore our sin, And suffered in our stead; He washed away sin’s awful stain, And we are justified.
4. Christ Jesus rose again, He conquered death and hell; Ascended high, He ever reigns, Who can His glories tell? He is our Righteousness, Our Advocate and Friend; Our Mediator, Lord and King, Whose praise shall never end. *************************************************************************** Daily Readings - January 22-28 Sunday - Exodus 14-16 Monday - Exodus 17-19 Tuesday - Exodus 20-22 Wednesday- Exodus 23-25 Thursday - Exodus 26-28 Friday - Exodus 29-31 Saturday - Exodus 32-34 *************************************************************************** CONGREGATIONAL SCRIPTURE READINGS TODAY: MORNING: ISAIAH 43:1-13 EVENING: LUKE 10:1-16 *************************************************************************** A FINISHED REDEMPTION "Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto Him" (1 Peter 3:22). The resurrection, enthronement and universal authority given to Jesus Christ provide us with undeniable evidence that He accomplished, to the Father’s full satisfaction, the work He was sent to do. What was that work? It was that work laid upon Him from all eternity, that work which He delightfully accepted to accomplish - to save, redeem and satisfy divine justice for all of those people given to Him by the Father in covenant grace before the world began. The Savior’s abiding presence in the Father’s house shows that real, substantial and everlasting peace has been made between the Lord and His fallen people by the blood of the cross of Christ. The Holy Spirit said "this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God" (Hebrews 10:12). Among the seven pieces of furniture in the Old Testament tabernacle, something was noticeably missing - a chair. There was no place for any of the priests to sit because the animal sacrifices they offered could never put away sin; consequently, their work was never completed. But the God-Man, by finishing the work of reconciliation, putting away sin and bringing in everlasting righteousness by His death, entered into glory and took His rightful place upon His throne. He would never have sat down had His work not been completed. "The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit Thou at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool" (Psalm 110:1). The Father was well pleased with His Son’s work of redemption and accepted His sacrifice as full payment for the iniquities of His people. Upon the basis of purging our sins by His substitutionary death, Christ ascended and "sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high" (Hebrews 1:3). Our Savior spoke to Father and said, "I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do" (John 17:4). He made this glorious declaration from the cross - "It is finished" (John 19:30). Child of God, your redemption is accomplished, the Savior’s perfect righteousness has been imputed to you and the forgiveness of your sins is a full and irrevocable pardon. –Pastor Jim Byrd *************************************************************************** Once in Christ, ever in Him. Having taken up His habitation in the heart, He never removes. None can untie this happy knot. Who will dissolve this union? Will He Himself? No, He will not; we have His word for it, "I will not turn away from them" (Jer. 32:40). But perhaps the sinner will do this mischief to himself? No, he shall not; "they shall not depart from me," says their God. Can devils do it? No, unless they be stronger than Christ and His Father too; "Neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand," says out Lord (John 10:28). "And none is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand" (verse 29). But what say you of death, which parts husband and wife; yea, separates the soul from the body? Will death do it? No: what saith the apostle? "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39). --Thomas Boston
