"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." (1 Thessalonians 5:18) *************************************************************************** THE CHRIST OF CALVARY TUNE "My Faith Has Found A Resting Place" CM with CHORUS WORDS BY Jim Byrd
1. O what a wondrous mystery, That God would love me so; To send His Son into this world, To pay the debt I owe.
CHORUS: Jesus the Savior died for me, Upon Mount Calvary; He washed away my sinfulness, And brought in righteousness.
2. In sovereign love the God of grace, Ordained me for His own; He sent His precious, holy Son, My sin-debt to atone. CHORUS
3. When came the long appointed time, Christ Jesus bled and died; And all for whom He gave Himself, Were saved and justified. CHORUS
4. Risen, ascended, Jesus lives, Our Prophet, Priest and King; He governs all the universe, Ruler of everything. CHORUS
5. The Savior sends His Spirit down, Who grants us faith to see; No one can save but Christ the Lord, The Christ of Calvary. CHORUS *************************************************************************** CONGREGATIONAL SCRIPTURE READINGS TODAY: MORNING: 1 CORINTHIANS 1:10-31 EVENING: LUKE 8:37-56 *************************************************************************** Daily Readings- November 20-26 Sunday - Acts 26-28 Monday - Romans 1-3 Tuesday - Romans 4-7 Wednesday- Romans 8-10 Thursday - Romans 11-13 Friday - Romans 14-16 Saturday- 1 Cor. 1-4 *************************************************************************** Thorns will not prick of themselves; but when held tightly in a person’s hand, they prick deeply. So this world and the things thereof are all good and were made of God for the benefit of His creatures. It is our immoderate affection that makes them hurtful. –Richard Sibbs *************************************************************************** QUOTES ON BEING THANKFUL "Hearty thanks must be given to God such as cometh, not from the roof of the mouth, but the root of the heart" (John Trapp).
"Thankfulness is a flower which will never bloom well excepting upon a root of deep humility" (J. C. Ryle).
"Prayer without thanksgiving is like a bird without wings" (William Hendriksen). *************************************************************************** "A TIME TO EVERY PURPOSE" "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1). "Season" - that which is by divine appointment. "Time" - that which is marked out, fixed, set, predetermined. "Purpose" - will, pleasure. The verse is saying, all things take place by divine appointment. Everything is marked out, set, fixed and appointed so that nothing happens except by the sovereign will and pleasure of the Lord. The word "time" is used frequently in the Scriptures. I direct your attention to six especially significant "times."
1. The Time of Reformation. "Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation" (Hebrews 9:10). The entrance of the Lord Jesus into this world was marked out, fixed, set and determined before the foundation of the world. "When the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son" (Galatians 4:4). "In due time, Christ died for the ungodly" (Romans 5:6). His coming was the time of reformation. Christ straightened everything out between an offended God and His sinful people by His life, death and resurrection. He satisfied divine justice, put away the sins of His people and brought in everlasting righteousness.
2. The Time of Love. "Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love" (Ezekiel 16:8). In old eternity, the Lord not only chose a people unto salvation, but determined when the gospel would come to them in life-giving power by the effectual working of the Holy Spirit and they would be brought to repentance from dead works and faith in Christ.
3. The Time of Trouble. "For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion" (Psalm 27:5). Troubles do not come to the children of God haphazardly, or by chance, but by divine appointment.
4. The Time of Death. "...The time of my departure is at hand" (2 Timothy 4:6). The Lord has set the exact number of our days upon this earth. "Thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass" (Job 14:5).
5. The Time of Harvest, that is, the end of the world. "...In the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn" (Matthew 13:30). Someday the Son of God is coming back in great glory and "every eye shall see Him" (Revelation 1:7). No one knows when the world will come to an end, but it has already been determined.
6. The Time of God’s Anger. "Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of Thine anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them" (Psalm 21:9). There is a day appointed when God will judge the world in righteousness by Jesus Christ (Acts 17:31). The time of the final judgment has been set and determined. In that day the Lord will make an everlasting separation between the righteous and the wicked. –Pastor Jim Byrd
