Of the twelve sons of Jacob, one was named Dan. His name means “judge.” When Jacob blessed his sons, he spoke of Dan being the judge of his brothers, likening him to a serpent that bites the heels of horses causing the riders to fall. Once Jacob finished blessing Dan, he prayed, “I look for your deliverance, O, LORD.” What trouble a judge brings on the sons of men! A judge is just, so his works among men cannot be righteously resisted. Therefore, the only hope against a judge is the LORD’S deliverance.
