"The LORD is merciful and gracious,slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy."

Hymn of Praise to Christ
Tune to "TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE" 7.7.7.7.
Words by Jim Byrd

1. Sing aloud this hymn of praise,
Hallelujahs let us raise;
Bless the Lord of earth and skies,
Let our praises ever rise,
Let our praises ever rise.

2. View His great creative might,
In the morning’s glor’ous light;
Study providence and see
Proofs of His great sovereignty,
Proofs of His great sovereignty.

3. Yet a greater work appears,
What relief to all our fears!
God for sinners gave His Son,
Jesus, the Anointed One,
Jesus, the Anointed One.

4. Lo He came the lost to save,
His own life He freely gave;
God was fully satisfied,
When Christ Jesus bled and died,
When Christ Jesus bled and died.

5. From His throne Christ reigns on high,
By His grace He brings us nigh;
He our sin has washed away,
Turned our darkness into day,
Turned our darkness into day.

6. So this song of praise we sing,
Unto Christ our God and King;
We are filled with thankfulness,
For the Lord our Righteousness,
For the Lord our Righteousness.

THE DEBT REMOVED

A bill is received in the mail informing you that such-and-such an amount is due on some specific date. Should you choose to do so, you could put the bill in a cross-cut paper shredder so that you no longer see it. In fact, you may decide not to even think of the obligation again (till the bill collector comes calling!), but that does not make the indebtedness go away. It is, however, an entirely different thing to pay the debt and enjoy the peace of mind in knowing that it has been expunged from your record.
You and I may choose to ignore our spiritual indebtedness to God for our sinfulness, but that does not make the debt go away and, consequently, there can be no real peace of heart in knowing it has been removed. How different it is to believe the Word of God that declares to every sinner who trusts the blessed Savior that their entire obligation to divine justice was removed at the cross, paid "in due time" (Romans 5:6) by the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ. The reality of the removal of the indebtedness and the resulting joyfulness and assurance of knowing it has been legally retired by the Redeemer comes to us upon being regenerated by the Holy Spirit and brought to faith in Christ.

"Jesus paid it all, all the debt I owed;
Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow."

EVERYTHING WORKING TOGETHER

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28). Note that, "All things work together," that is to say, none of them work separately. I remember an old preacher using a very pithy and homely metaphor. "‘All things work together for good,’ but perhaps any one of those ‘all things’ might destroy us if taken alone. The physician prescribes medicine; you go to the chemist, and he makes it up. There is something taken from this drawer, something from that vial, something from that shelf; any one of those ingredients, it is very possible, would be a deadly poison and kill you outright if you should take it separately; but he puts one into the mortar, and then another, and then another, and when he has worked them all up with his pestle, and has made a compound, he gives them all to you as a whole and together they work for your good, but any one of the ingredients might either have operated fatally, or in a manner detrimental to your health." Learn, then, that it is wrong to ask, concerning any one particular act of providence, Is this for my good? Remember, it is not the one thing alone that is for your good; it is the one thing put with another thing, and that with a third, and that with a fourth, and all these mixed together, that work for your good. Your being sick very probably might not be for your good, only God has something to follow your sickness, some blessed deliverance, and He knows that when He has mixed the different experiences of your life together, they shall produce good for your soul and eternal good for your spirit. We know right well that there are many things that happen to us in our lives that would be the ruin of us if we were always to continue in the same condition. Too much joy would intoxicate us, too much misery would drive us to despair; but the joy and the misery, the battle and victory, the storm and the calm, all these compounded make that sacred elixir whereby God maketh all His people perfect through suffering, and leadeth them to ultimate happiness. "All things work together for good."
–C. H. Spurgeon

By the light of NATURE we see God as a God ABOVE us; by the light of the LAW, we see Him as a God AGAINST us; but by the light of the GOSPEL, we see Him as EMMANUEL, GOD WITH US!
