"Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of Thy countenance. In Thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in Thy righteousness shall they be exalted." (Psalm 89:15-16)
1. Be honest in all your dealings with God and men. You’ll never have to look over your shoulder with regrets.
2. Be grateful for every kind word or deed directed toward you. Learn to say "thank you" (and really mean it).
3. Be mindful that "every good gift and every perfect gift comes from above" (James 1:17). Acknowledge that the Lord is good in what He gives and in what He doesn’t give.
4. Be friendly. Speak a word of encouragement to friends and strangers. You’ll make their day.
5. Be pleasant. Nobody enjoys being around a grumpy person.
6. Stop complaining. It is so dishonoring to God and discouraging to the people who hear you.
7. Forgive those who wrong you. Child of God, because of Christ’s substitutionary death, all your sins have been pardoned; you are made the righteousness of God in Him. Forgive as you have been forgiven and never hold a grudge.
8. Don’t speak ill of others. If you can’t find something good to say about someone, just keep quiet.
9. Don’t be a gossiper or a rumor-spreader. "Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth" (Proverbs 26:20).
10. Before you say something or perform an action, answer this question: Can I do this for God’s glory? If you can’t, don’t speak the words and don’t perform the deed. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).
When the Holy Spirit shows us the necessity, the beauty and the sufficiency of the death of Christ, we repent of our own foolish works of self-righteousness, we forsake every other way of seeking to please God, we look to Christ and His substitutionary death as the only ground of our acceptance with God and our conscience rests in the quiet assurance that Christ has satisfied God on our behalf and saved us in a way that glorifies God in all His holy character. Thus the "blood" purges our consciences of every false hope, of natural self-righteousness, and all fear and doubt! –Pastor Gary Shepherd
Take the doctrines of grace isolated from the Person of Christ; they are scattered limbs. There is no beauty in them alone. But view the truth of the Gospel in connection with the Person and work of the Son of God, what a heavenly light, what a divine glory is cast upon every truth connected with His sacred Person, atoning blood, finished work, and dying love! This is the way to receive the Gospel; not as a thing of shreds and patches, a mere collection or scheme of certain doctrines floating up and down God ’s Word, as waifs and strays from a stranded ship; but as ONE HARMONIOUS GOSPEL, full of grace, mercy, and truth, impregnated with divine blessedness, and all connected with, all springing out of the Person of the God-Man. --J. C. Philpot
A child of God is like a person in a beautiful palace; if there is light in it, he sees the splendid objects around him, and enjoys them; but if the light is removed, he is nevertheless in the palace still, and surrounded with the same splendid objects as before, though he cannot see them. So, though the believer’s frames and sensible comforts may have their ebbs and flows, his state, Godward, is invariably the same. –Augustus Toplady
