Praise the Lamb of God Tune: "SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER" LM/DOUBLE Words by JIM BYRD
1. O praise the Son whom angels fear, Who came to bring salvation near; That One in Whom all glory shown; Descended from the highest throne. Christ knew no sin, He did no wrong, He came to save a chosen throng; The Lord our Righteousness is He, The God of old eternity.
2. Christ came to suffer, bleed and die, And when the hour of death drew nigh; He bore our sorrow, sin and shame, The "Friend of sinners" was His Name. Behold the Lamb for sinners slain, The Savior died, but not in vain; He took His chosen people’s place, Praise God for His redeeming grace.
3. The law of God was satisfied, When Jesus bowed His head and died; And now He reigns upon His throne, Soon to return for all His own. Redeemed by blood and saved by grace, Someday we shall behold His face; Our song forever shall remain, O praise the Lamb for sinners slain.
One encouraging sign of the times in our day is that SOME are beginning to examine modern evangelism. Burdened, weary of trying to pastor and motivate unsaved church members, preachers are ALMOST at the place of resorting to the Bible message and method of evangelism and missions. It may be that the time is not far off when many books will be shelved and "The Book of books" will be preached again, when preachers will quit trying to fill the pews and begin to FILL THE PULPIT, when pastors will cease to be men-pleasers searching for a better place and become prophets of God seeking His face! If this happens, lawless rebels will no longer talk of patronizing the Son of God, debate whether or not they will let Him into their hearts to save them, or accept Jesus as their savior while they bow to the idols of materialism. But we will hear cries from smitten hearts which were heard in days gone by - "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" "Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner." "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom." One of the championship football teams of the past had a coach who would come into the locker room at half-time, when the team was down by two touchdowns, and say (if you will pardon the expression), "Alright men, it’s gut-sucking time." Every preacher knows what that means! It’s time to quit counting the cost and start paying the price! It’s time to quit building the kingdom and start tearing up some false foundations! It’s time to quit getting everybody saved and start getting somebody lost! - Rolf Barnard, 1951
Beware of the Cunning Enemy "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices" (2 Corinthians 2:11). That one which our Savior labeled, "a murderer from the beginning," will do everything within his power to interfere with public worship as well as private worship, prayer and the reading and study of the Scriptures. When he is unsuccessful in that attack, he will tempt us to rely upon those works as being meritorious before God. Let us ever be on guard as to his intention. His aim is to have us rest upon our own works, thereby turning away from the righteousness of Christ. Do not be fooled by his craftiness and deceitfulness. We must not make an idol out of anything that we do. "All of our righteousnesses are as filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6). By all means worship the Lord publicly and privately, but never look to those things as reasons why God should accept you. Be content, now and always, to be "accepted in the Beloved" (Ephesians 1:6). "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us" (1 Timothy 3:5).
The grand controversy between corrupt nature and the Almighty is, who shall have the glory of salvation, God or the creature. The pride of man says – "The glory of salvation is due to me, for I can save myself." But Jehovah takes the glory of salvation to Himself, and says, "I will have all the glory thereof: for it is by My sovereign and efficacious grace that men are saved." Thus pride is a principal cause of the enmity there is in the carnal mind against God; it is at the bottom of all the opposition made to those doctrines of Scripture which illustrate and advance the almighty power and free grace of God in the salvation of sinners. –Augustus Toplady
