Our Prayer Tune to "JESUS THY BLOOD" LM Words by JIM BYRD
1. O God of everlasting days, Receive our worship, thanks and praise; May all who gather in this place, Exalt Thy Name and seek Thy face.
2. We ask for faith Thy Word to hear, O make us wise, Thy Name to fear; Speak Lord to ev’ry mind and heart, Thy saving grace to us impart.
3. O may Thy Son, our sovereign Lord, Be praised, exalted and adored; Come Spirit, give us eyes to see Christ Jesus saves eternally.
4. And for Thy loved, but erring sheep, Out on the rugged mountain steep; O Shepherd find the lambs which roam, And bring the wand’ring, lost ones home. ______________________________________________________________________
Honesty in Preaching
It is ever my goal to honestly, clearly and boldly proclaim the blessed message of "Jesus Christ and Him crucified." There is no other Savior but the Lord Jesus, and the only way He could bring in everlasting righteousness was by His substitutionary, justice-satisfying death and resurrection. The gospel preacher is constantly declaring... 1. A holy God whose laws none can obey. 2. A righteousness demanded which no man can render. 3. A spiritual filthiness which none can wash away. 4. A guilt before God that none can erase. 5. A justice which must be satisfied. 6. A death that all men must experience. 7. A judgment which none can avoid. 8. An eternity all men must spend somewhere. 9. A faith in Jesus Christ that none can produce. 10. A blessed Savior whose blood and righteousness satisfied the demands of divine justice for His chosen people. 11. A glorious, eternal salvation that is of the Lord. This salvation was purposed in eternity, accomplished by Christ’s cross-death, and made known by the revealing grace of the Holy Spirit who imparts to unworthy sinners the gifts of repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. ______________________________________________________________________
God Governs or Is Governed
Either God governs or He is governed; either God rules or He is ruled; either God has His will or men have theirs. Is this a difficult choice? Men of God in the Scriptures had no problem with this. Job said, "The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD" (Job 1:21). Eli said, "It is the LORD: let Him do what seemeth Him good" (1 Samuel 3:18). David summed it up in 2 Samuel 24:14, "Let us fall now into the hand of the LORD, FOR HIS MERCIES ARE GREAT: and let me not fall into the hand of man" (myself or any other man). –copied ______________________________________________________________________
The Gift of Faith
Faith is God’s gift, and "all men have not faith" (2 Thessalonians 3:2), therefore, we see that God does not bestow this gift upon all. Upon whom then does He bestow this saving favor? And we answer, upon His own elect—"As many as were ordained to eternal life believed" (Acts 13:48), hence it is that we read of "the faith of God’s elect" (Titus 1:1). But is God partial in the distribution of His favors? Has He not the right to be? Are there still some who "murmur against the good man of the house?" Then his own words are sufficient reply—"Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own?" (Matthew 20:15). God is sovereign in the bestowment of His gifts, both in the natural and in the spiritual realms. --A. W. Pink ______________________________________________________________________
Christ’s Heirs
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done" (Titus 3:5). A very young believer was in deep distress. He went to his pastor, a man wise in the faith, and told him, "No matter how much I pray, no matter how hard I try to obey, I simply cannot seem to be faithful enough to my Lord. I wonder if I am truly saved." The pastor saw his dog dying on the floor and gave the young believer the following lesson. – "Do you see this dog here? He is my dog. He is house-trained; he never makes a mess; he is obedient; he is a pure delight to me. Out in the kitchen I have a son, a baby son. He makes a mess; he throws his food around, he fouls his clothes; he is a total mess. But who is going to inherit my things? Not my dog; my son is my heir. If you trust in Christ, even with little faith, you are Jesus Christ’s heir because it is for you that He died and rose again."
Brethren, we are heirs of Christ, not through our perfection but by HIS perfection, not by our works but by HIS grace, not by our diligence, obedience and faithfulness, but by HIS alone. Let us all strive to remember this. –copied from Thirteenth Street Baptist Church bulletin ______________________________________________________________________
As the sun is seen in its own light, so is Christ; we can never behold Him believingly and comfortably, but in the light of His own Spirit. –Augustus Toplady ______________________________________________________________________
