Dear Praying Friends: Greetings from the guest room of Indiana Baptist College. I finally was able to start teaching in colleges last week. I taught two classes in Fairhaven Baptist College about translation, and had the privilege of preaching in chapel. This week, we are in Indiana Baptist College for the entire week. I am scheduled to preach in chapel each day during the week, and began a section on Spiritual Warfare lasts night which was the evening chapel for night students. I will continue that subject tonight, and continue further on Thursday evening. Friday night we will have a 2 hour or so seminar on the persecuted church.
To back up, two weeks ago on Wednesday night we went to Sturgis, Michigan. We met the new pastor Greg Long. The founding pastor, Paul Delmark, attended that night for his last service before heading south to a new ministry. We had a good time and enjoyed our contact with this good church. Then Sunday morning we were with Pastor Jeff Farnham in LaGrange, Indiana, and we were with Pastor Arnold Fair in Angola, Indiana for the evening service. Pastor Farnham was very gracious, and gave us a book which he had written. Likewise, Pastor Fair also gave us books. Pastor Fair faces some health issues in the near future, and I am certain that he would appreciate your prayers. We enjoyed our time at both services.
Then last Wednesday night, we had a challenging trip to Highland Bible Baptist Church, where Pastor Michael Poole has been for a long time. I had the wrong address in my GPS, which took us instead to a Baptist church which had closed. We were a bit pressed for time as we had also been stuck in a traffic jam on I-94. The Lord helped, and we arrived on time. This church has done an incredible job of transforming a school building into a beautiful church. We very much enjoyed our time there. When we were there, we also met Br. Sigstad, whom I had heard about as a missionary to Nigeria but had never met. We also enjoyed our brief time of fellowship. The Lord has protected Br. Sigstad in remarkable ways as well as using him very effectively in church planting. We appreciated our daughter Becky attending the service also.
This last weekend, we were with Dr. David Zempel for a seminar on Saturday night and preaching all day Sunday. I spoke on missions on Saturday night, challenging especially in the areas not yet reached (10-40 window), the need of translations of the Bible in many languages, and also the problems of the persecuted church. Sunday morning I taught on Faith Promise in Sunday school, preached on the same in the Sunday morning service, and showed our DVD and preached on guidance of the Lord in the evening service. We really enjoyed our time with Dr. Zempel and his staff and people.
We would appreciate your prayers for the next three weeks. We will be at a mission conference in Indianapolis Sunday-Monday, then another in northern Chicago on Tuesday, and then teaching on Thursday and Friday at Fairhaven Baptist College, plus preaching in their Thursday night service. That weekend we are traveling to Crown College in Tennessee for a week block course on World Religions and Worldview at a graduate level. That weekend we travel to Ajax, just on the border of Toronto, Canada and will be teaching another block course on missions. Following that course, we will be heading back to our home area, and have 5 churches to speak in before our return to Suriname on November 3rd.
In Suriname, the men should be working on the roof of the Sunny Point church, and I hope that it will be finished next week. Following that, they need to put in a ceiling, the floors, and the plumbing and electricity as well as doors and windows. We continue to pray for the finances. We are seeing some of the financial needs being met, and count on your prayers.
A final prayer request is for a lady named Wanda, who we witnessed to a number of times at Walmarts. She seems close to accepting the Lord, but something is holding her back from that decision.
Prayer requests:
- Spiritual growth
- Our health and strength for the ministry
- Safety driving
- That we might be a blessing, and that the word of God might impact lives
- The churches in Suriname - their growth, outreach, and spiritual impact
- The church building in progress at Sunny Point - both the work and finances
- Our future ministry in teaching in other schools this year
