Dear Praying Friends: We so appreciate your faithful prayers on our behalf.
Update on Liz: Stone-free and stent-free!
We had hoped to be able to get the Liz’s stone problem taken care of in Suriname, but are so grateful that the Lord made it possible for us to have it cared for in the USA. We had hoped to avoid the expense of handling in the USA plus additional costs of transportation and having to come back to the USA a month earlier, but the Lord has blessed in many ways!
First, the procedure was completely successful, and I doubt that we would have had success in Suriname without the availability of laser. When they analyzed the chemical composition of the stone, it is a very hard stone to break. Also being located where it was in the ureter, it was not surrounded by water, and this makes the shock (lithotripsy) more difficult. The second stone was successfully removed from the other kidney as well.
Second, we were grateful that the last severe chills and fever occurred here in the USA, and not in Suriname or in flight. This showed the necessity of the procedure.
Third, other aspects of her treatment can be done here which we would not be able to have done in Suriname. Again, we are grateful.
Fourth, we had a number of opportunities to witness at both the hospital and doctor’s office and laboratory. Liz is already feeling much better. We anticipate that she will continue to improve back to normal. Thanks so much for praying.
Family visits:One extra bonus of coming home earlier is more opportunity to see family. We have seen all our children, and most of the grandchildren. We have been able to see Marc and his family twice thus far, and plan to get together again briefly next week. Because their children are in the Hungarian school system, they have to go back to Hungary at the end of August, and we would have seen them just briefly on our regular schedule.
Housing:We have really been blessed! In addition to staying with our daughter Cathy during the time of surgery and immediately following, we have stayed with our friends the Hubeles, who have totally opened their home and spoiled us in many ways. Then we are basing out of the home of Jeff Voegtlin at Fairhaven Baptist College in Chesterton, Indiana. They too have opened their home to us. It is great to have space to spread out!
News from Suriname:Thus far, everything has been going well in Suriname. The building project is proceeding as long as funds will permit. The church is organizing a youth camp for September.
There has been a lot of turmoil and maneuvering in the political scene in Suriname since the elections on May 25th. However, there is no indication of instability or violence. It looks like the various groups are now forming a new government which will be installed soon.
