Dear brethren and friends,
We give thanks to our God for the desire that He has put in your hearts to unite with us in this work of mercy for Haiti.
We would like to share with you that last Saturday January 16th, we a group representatives from various churches; Pastors Leopoldo Espaillat and Sugel Michelen, and the deacons Eric Michelen, Miguel Linares and Jean Pierre Kawas from Iglesia Biblica del Señor Jesucristo (IBSJ), Pastor Francisco Guzman from Iglesia Biblica de la Trinidad(IBT), Pastor Hector Santana from Iglesia Bautista del Nuevo Pacto(IBNP), Pastor Miguel Angel Castillo from Iglesia Fundamento Biblico (IFB). In this meeting we listen to the report given by our brothers Pastor Castillo and Jean Pierre Kawas, whom had traveled to Haiti and shared what they observed during their time in Puerto Principe.
1. The situation in Haiti is not as the international news presents it. What we see in the news is not even 20% of the real situation.
2. The people are sleeping in parks, stadiums, streets and any open areas because of the fear of more tremors. There have been over 42, with more or less intensity, including one of 5.3 that was felt Thursday night and which produced panic among the residents.
3. There are about 70 evangelical pastors that we fear might be dead, some church buildings that are destroyed. These brethren met for prayer meetings during the day, because of the electricity rationing that occurs in Haiti.
4. The help that we will give will be focus on the churches and the nearby communities. We will channel the help through the local churches which will share with the local communities. We will also work with International Hope, because they have the experience and logistics that will help us provide the help fast and security.
The short term plan to follow is:
In conjunction with Esperanza Internacional institution:
a) Establish an office in Port of Prince
b) Select the personnel that will work in the office.
c) Start with the medicine and food shipments.
d) Contact a couple of Cuban physicians that offered to work in Puerto Principe for about three weeks.
Other things to accomplish:
· Jean Pierre Kawas will be contacting the churches in Haiti through which the help will be chanelled.
· On Thursday January 21st, Pastor Miguel A. Castillo (Iglesia Fundamento Biblico), Francisco Gusman (Iglesia Biblica de la Trinidad), also Jean Pierre Kawas (IBSJ), Carlos Pimentel (Esperanza Internacional), and probably a deacon or a pastor from IBSJ, will travel to Haiti.
In reference to the churches that will coordinate the help, we have concluded for the moment, request that its members donate money instead of food or medicine. Esperanza Internacional has the means to prepare kits containing what a family will need for a week as follow:
