Destination Challenge 2009

The teenagers just finished a two-week trip, which we called Destination Challenge. We started preparing for the trip in February both spiritually and physically. In May, we intensified our physical workouts by hiking, biking, or running at least four days a week. The goal was to hike the Grand Canyon in a day-a 17-mile hike. God was good to us on the day of the hike. It was cooler than expected, and we even had a slight rain shower. Three teenagers became ill before the hike, but beside that little bump, the remaining 46 teenagers made it safely through the hike. It was a good test of endurance. There was a good spirit overall, and we are praying that God will use the physical and spiritual challenge throughout this summer to make our teens stronger.

On the trip, we were able to stay at a few churches, which helped defray the cost of lodging. In Challis, Idaho, we helped Pastor Archie Parrish clear a field of boulders so he could make a playing field for an upcoming teen and children's program.

We ended the trip in Jackson, Wyoming. The beauty there is breathtaking. On a picture-taking tour, we had to stop the bus because of buffalo crossing. The teens were able to relax a little more at this spot and even went whitewater rafting down the Snake River.
