My Righteousness is at the Right Hand of the Father where my good works cannot help it and my bad works cannot hurt it. John Bunyan
Matthew 5: 8: Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
HAPPY ARE THE PURE IN HEART
What is a pure heart? A pure heart is opposite of a "defiled and unbelieving" heart (Ti 1: 15.) It is a heart not polluted, contaminated, soiled by sin; it is a heart that has been made to trust in the singleness of Christ Jesus the Lord (2 Cor 1: 12; 11: 3.)
How does a sinner get this pure heart? A pure heart is the creation of the triune God (Ez 36: 24, 25.) It is created by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit (Ti 3:5.) Sinners are cleansed in the conscience/heart by the sprinkling of the blood of Christ Jesus (Heb 9:14.) God purifies the heart through faith in Christ (Acts 15: 8, 9.)
It is not that the pure in heart are without sin; it is not that the pure in heart do not have a conscious awareness of the sin we are in the flesh; but a pure heart knows that no matter what, we have the assurance that in Christ there is now no condemnation (Ro 8: 1, 2.) Therefore, through the application of the blood of Christ, the pure in heart have peace with God and joy in the Holy Ghost (Heb 10: 1, 2.)
The happiness of the pure in heart is that we see God and have full assurance that through the blood of Christ, and having a High Priest over the house of God, we have unreserved liberty to continually draw near to him (Heb 10: 16-22.)
THEY SHALL SEE GOD
Believers see God, not through the natural eye, but with the pure heart (Heb 11: 1.)
Charles Spurgeon said that foul hearts make dim eyes Godward. When we cross our eyes our vision is blurred because we are looking in two different directions at once. The heart which God has made pure looks only in one direction and sees God.
The pure in heart see God in Christ and shall continue to see him throughout the life of faith (Jn 11: 40.) In the Lord Jesus the pure in heart see the righteousness of God (Ro 3: 21, 22.) The pure in heart see God our Savior in his word (Jn 5: 39.) We see God in providence (Ro 8:28.) Soon, the pure in heart will see God our Savior Jesus Christ face to face in glory (I Cor 13: 12; Job 19: 26, 27; I Jn 3: 2, 3.) Happy are the pure in heart because they shall see God.
SCRIPTURE
Psalm 2: 1: Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2: The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3: Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4: He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 5: Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. 6: Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7: I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8: Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9: Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. 10: Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11: Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12: Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
