"Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts." - Proverbs 31:6
The wise mother of king Lemuel gave her son gracious directions when she spoke these words. It is when we begin to feel the misery into which we have been cast by sin, and thus become ready to perish, and of heavy hearts, that the pure wine of gospel grace is suitable to our lost condition. As the holiness and justice of God are discovered to the conscience, and we are made to see and feel the depths of the Adam fall, we look out of ourselves for a salvation which we could not find in our fallen nature or in our deeply corrupt and unbelieving heart.
When, then, we obtain by living faith a view of the Son of God as a Mediator between God and men, when we see by the eye of faith the blood of the cross, and the full and complete atonement which he, as the Lamb of God, made for sin, then we heartily embrace him as "of God made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption" (1 Cor. 1:30). We see and feel that there is salvation in him and in no other (Acts 4:12); and as this salvation is seen to be worthy of God and suitable to us, as it answers all the demands of God's holy law, and glorifies it by rendering it an obedience as far excelling ours as heaven excels earth, and God surpasses man; we embrace it as our justifying righteousness and covering robe, from the eyes of him who, out of Christ, is a consuming fire (Heb. 12:29).
J.C. Philpot - 1802-1869
We know that salvation costs us absolutely nothing as to attaining or maintaining it. Someone said, "What we obtain too cheaply, we esteem too lightly." Let us never forget that though salvation costs US nothing, it costs God His only-begotten, beloved Son. Salvation is free, but it is not cheap. So we who are saved have no reason to esteem it too lightly. IT IS OUR ETERNAL LIFE!

MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT
1 Corinthians 12:9
God's grace is sufficient (more than enough) to save all His people in and by the Lord Jesus Christ. God's grace is sufficient to redeem all His people in and by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and justify them completely based on His righteousness alone. God's grace is sufficient to regenerate and convert all His people in and by the Lord Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit in the new birth. God's grace is sufficient to bring all His people unto glory in and by the Lord Jesus Christ. Here is the nature of God's sufficient grace in Christ. God's sufficient grace:
(1) Is SOVEREIGN GRACE - "For He saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy." (Rom. 9:15-16)
(2) Is FOR SINNERS - "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." (1 Tim. 1:15)
(3) REIGNS THROUGH RIGHTEOUSNESS - "That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord." (Rom. 5:21)
(4) RESULTS IN LIFE TO DEAD SINNERS - "And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness." (Rom. 8:10)
(5) BRINGS FORTH FRUIT UNTO GOD - "Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to Him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. (Rom. 7:4)
(7) PRESERVES UNTO GLORY - "Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:" (Ph'p. 1:6)
