"This persuasion is not from Him who calls you." Gal 5:8
The book of Galatians is a passionate letter written by the Apostle Paul under the Spirit's inspiration that contained stern warnings about adding works to grace. Toward the end of the letter the Apostle writes the statement in the above text telling them that the Holy Spirit of God is not who called them to believe a lie. What was that lie? That Christ needed some work or condition added by the sinner to make His work of Redemption complete.
This was a seduction from a different spirit, which involved perversion (1:7 says). Look in the context concerning the aspect of perversion.
“I marvel that you so soon are being moved away from Him who called you into the grace of Christ, to another gospel, which is not another, but some are troubling you, and desiring to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from Heaven preach a gospel to you beside what we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we said before, and now I say again, If anyone preaches a gospel to you beside what you have received, let him be accursed.” Gal 1:6-9
One thing is absolutely sure in what the Apostle was conveying to the Galatians who were falling for such non-sense; It is not the Holy Spirit who called you to this lie. We need to get this fact into our hearts and minds in the modern-day application of this. This leads me a serious question: Out of all the OTHER things that could be put in the same slot as circumcision today, would the Spirit of God be doing the persuading in the form of perverting the gospel?
What are some examples of this? They may include baptism. Would God persuade one of His elect people that baptism saves them? What about speaking in tongues? How about the popular altar-call with a so-called freewill decision? How about a sinner's prayer with faith being in their faith or repentance being a condition? Would God give faith for those things to be the object of their faith instead of Christ alone?
What is one of the most popular form of religion that calls itself Christian but is not in any sense Biblical? What form of religion that claims to be evangelical, even conservative, and fights tooth and nail against abortion, homosexuality, stem cell research? All this with being sincere and zealous concerning many, many things and they can still be wrong on the gospel? It is the Arminian. God does NOT ever give faith in conditionalism, in Arminianism or in anything else that does not look to Christ ALONE!! Only the spirit of Antichrist does that.
In conclusion I want to ask you to really think about some questions. Why do so many Sovereign Grace, Calvinist/Reformed people claim they are fully “5 pointers” but tolerate Arminianism as some form of the gospel? Is not Arminianism the most opposite message that can be made up in all the world? Indeed it is. If we should see anything we should clearly be able to see what the gospel is NOT! Arminianism is a wicked, satanic lie of the devil that is not contained in God's word at all, anywhere.
A question you need to ponder on the most is; Is it only wrong to believe the lie of Arminianism or is it also wrong to be a believer in sovereign grace and say that Arminianism is a form (maybe a lower form) of the gospel of grace? That, too, is not a persuasion from Him who called you. The LORD God does not give misdirected faith. He gives a faith that is NOT of works. He gives a faith that does not boast and glory in the fleshly merits of their own righteousness. God does not give faith that competes with the Person and work of Christ Jesus. He must be faithful to Himself. Think on this.
