Prayer For The Church:
Pray for Sarah, Mona and Jessica, all pregnant with their first child.
We continue to see increasing numbers at all the clubs, please pray that the children will be spiritually attentive during the teaching time.
Please pray that the Lord will bless and strengthen Irene Thorp as she gives her testimony at the members' meeting on Tuesday.
We were much encouraged on Thursday evening with the news from Poland from Pastor Daniel Kryston and his wife Anya. Continue to pray for Anya's father Jan who is seriously ill.
Prayer For The Local Area:
Homerton
‘We praise God for his continued goodness to us, those who have been unwell are showing real signs of improvement. The numbers at our morning service have been steadily increasing with the average age dropping. Pray for our young people that may stand firm in the Lord also for those who lost their jobs as a result of the current economic problems.'
Prayer For The Wider Area:
Cuba - Pastor Reverend Rodriquez - Trial Suspended, Harassment continues
In December 2008, Pastor Rodriguez was accused of "offensive behaviour". Thankfully, the trial was suspended, possibly due to the unexpected amount of attention his case received outside of Cuba.
Reverend Roberto Rodriguez, pastor of the Los Pinos Nuevos de Sagua la Grande Church and the National President of the Interdenominational Fellowship of Evangelical Pastors and Ministers in Cuba (the Spanish acronym is CIMPEC) and his son, Eric Gabriel Rodriguez del Toro, who is also a pastor, have been the target of harassment, with the apparent support of local government officials, for a number of years.
As in similar cases in Cuba, the authorities seem to be using the charges in this case as a pretext for pressuring and possibly imprisoning the two pastors. Our sources tell us that the real reason behind this trial lies in the withdrawal of CIMPEC from the Cuban Council of Churches (CCC), in September, under the leadership of Reverend Rodriguez. At the time, CIMPEC published a letter outlining their reasons for withdrawing from the CCC in which they cited consistent and illegal interference in internal CIMPEC affairs by the CCC leadership over the past year.
In October, government authorities stripped Reverend Rodriguez of his position as President of CIMPEC in the government Registry of Associations, a move which was condemned as unconstitutional by the members of CIMPEC as it was done without their involvement or approval. Since then, they say, the families have been subjected to a campaign of accusations and harassment, culminating in this trial.
Latest reports indicate that Pastor Rodriguez's trial was again unexpectedly suspended, however, no reason has been given and the charges still stand.
We are also deeply concerned by reports from his family that neighbours continue to carry out acts of aggression against their family. The family has been forced to move for their own safety, neighbours have damaged their septic tank, leaving them with no sanitary facilities in their home, and destroyed their water pipes, leaving them without water.
The daughter-in-law of Reverend Rodriguez, Gianelys Meneses, was attacked on the street while walking with her two-year old daughter. As a result, she suffered a miscarriage at eight weeks. Even more alarmingly, she has been told by the authorities that they may charge her as responsible for the attack.
