Child of God, always remember that the eternal purpose of God is ever moving irresistibly forward, and there is no power that can thwart Him from fulfilling His sovereign will. Behold that extraordinary event of the incarnation of the Son of God. He came to save His people from their sins by His substitutionary death upon the cross. Four thousand years before His entrance, the Lord gave His word to our fallen parents that the "Seed of the woman" would come and crush the head of the enemy of our souls. Immediately, chosen sinners began looking for and living in expectation of the coming of Messiah.
Even Eve thought He had arrived when she gave birth to her firstborn son and named him Cain, which meant, I have gotten a man, the Lord. She was, of course, sadly mistaken for Cain was not the Savior. He despised the Seed of the woman and proved it when he murdered his brother who looked to the promised Seed for salvation.
A hundred years rolled by and still Messiah did not come.
After a thousand years, He had not made His entrance.
Another thousand years went by and then another thousand, and still Messiah had not come.
By this time, the prophesies of His coming were numerous. To the carnal eye it appeared God had either forgotten His promises or something had prevented Him from doing His will. Had some circumstance interfered with the fulfillment of the divine Word?
It was not until another thousand years had passed that the Lord of glory came in the likeness of sinful man to put away sin and bring in everlasting righteousness by the sacrifice of Himself. God declared by His prophets that the Redeemer would come, and in the fulness of time He came; and when He did, every divine promise of God foretelling His appearance was precisely fulfilled.
It had been prophesied that He would be the seed of Abraham, of the Jewish nation, of the tribe of Judah and of the lineage of David. It was predicted that He would be born in Bethlehem to a young virgin. It was declared that many would be brought to grief at the death of their young babies, and that Messiah would be taken into Egypt for safety’s sake. The Lord foretold all those things, and many more, right down to the minutest details, and they all came to pass exactly as prophesied.
The Lord will do what He has declared and not one promise shall fall to the ground unfulfilled. Let not the passing of time cause you to doubt His word, and do not be tempted into thinking that God’s purpose could possibly fail. "Hath He said, and shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19). The Lord will make certain that every prophecy comes to pass, every promise will be fulfilled, and even what seems to us to be the most unlikely of instruments will be used in bringing His purposes to fruition.
