Thought For The Week:
"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith" Hebrews 12:1
Prayer For The Church:
Pray for Marilyn as she rests after her hospital operation this week.
Pray for Vanessa and Pete as they prepare for the birth of their first baby.
Pray for Daniel as he faces uncertainty at work.
Pray for Ralph as he preaches at Whitstable this evening and Erith next week.
At this time of anniversary let us pray urgently that we may know days of Holy Spirit revival, that we may be united in a fervent zeal for the Lord's work and a dying of self.
Prayer For The Local Area:
Horsham is the church on the Prayer Link for the coming week. The church correspondent writes, ‘Leadership succession of the fellowship is a matter of prayerful consideration as we look ahead into 2009. We also request prayer regarding finalising legal documentation with a local housing association for access to construct off road car parking.'
Prayer For The Wider Area:
GEM missionaries minister in Greece
98% of the people in Greece belong to the Greek Orthodox church, but a mere 2% attend services regularly.
Evangelical Christianity is considered "heresy," and they are taught that Greek Orthodox is the only true church.
One Greek Orthodox couple only stepped foot into a Greater Europe Mission church because their daughter's college roommates brought her to salvation. Their daughter studied medicine in England, but the pressures of school caused her to attempt suicide. Her dorm mates interceded for her, and she accepted Christ. After telling her mother about her salvation, she was forbidden to attend an evangelical church.
"I love you, mom," she replied, "but I love Jesus more."
At Christmas, the daughter learned about the GEM church and met missionaries Bill and Marion. Seeing their daughter happy again was enough to move the couple past their fear of the "heretical" church, and they attended a service with her. They now attend the church regularly and meet with Bill and Marion to ask questions about the faith.
Marion says "To a Greek Orthodox person, grace has a different meaning. Their church teaches that grace is administered through the seven mysteries of the church, and that grace is not unmerited favour but a help to their will, which was weakened by the Fall."
Christian radio sparks taxi conversation
The Missionary Taxi Club in Busan, South Korea continues to point passengers to Christ after 25 years of meeting.
The 450 members of the club have devoted themselves to playing Far East Broadcasting Company radio broadcasts around the clock in their taxis. The hope is that passengers will hear the programs and be moved toward the Lord.
Mr. Ban, president of the FEBC Missionary Taxi Club, explained one recent encounter he had with a passenger. When a woman heard a song in Mr. Ban's car that grabbed her attention, she made note that the song was "amazing." Mr. Ban quickly responded that the music at his church is similar. He then exchanged information with the woman and invited her to visit his church.
This unique and perhaps unconventional ministry has allowed for several similar conversations, providing a doorway for Korean taxi drivers into the spiritual lives of their customers. Pray that God would continue to use this ministry to plant seeds and eventually reap a harvest.
