Dear Praying Friends,Sunday was a good day with 63 in spite of the fact that 21 were gone mostly because of it being the Sunday at the end of spring vacation.
A woman who has been coming since the fall, Josefina, who had requested to be baptized but whom I doubted was saved, received assurance of her salvation in the service.
On Saturday, I heard a sweet testimony from Susy, the 16-year old teenager who was saved three weeks ago. She told me she has been reading a little of the Bible every day since I gave her one after her salvation. Her unsaved dad, a colonel in charge of an elite anti-narcotraffic unit stationed at the border, was visiting his family this week. While in her bedroom she was reading to him from a passage about Solomon. She asked him, "Who is Solomon?" He said, "I'm not sure. I think he's one of the apostles." "And who is Jehovah?" "I don't know that, either. Why don't you ask the pastor next time you see him?" Her dad was real supportive of her new-found faith and encouraged her to keep learning more.
It thrills me to see one who knows nothing about Christianity, not even Catholicism; but is excited about every new discovery, where everything is new and fresh to them.
It was a blessing to see a woman named Paula come for the third time in a row bringing again her two siblings and even a piñata for next week's Kid's Day. Please seriously pray for Kid's Day that God's power be on the preaching and that there be genuine conversions.
The highlight of Sunday was the salvation of Marisol, a cleaning maid we had met knocking doors in our area. Last Sunday night we picked her up for church and, on the way home, we spoke to her about salvation. She said she had images and was surprised when God said, "Thou shalt not have any graven images" on the film "the Ten Commandments" that she had watched during Easter week. She was convinced it must be one of those evangelical films.
This Sunday afternoon we went to her house to witness to her, dealt with her more on images and other Catholic errors, and at the end she trusted Christ as her Savior.
Our trip to the sierra of Oaxaca was a great blessing to me personally. The pueblo of 300 people is on the side of a mountain, and on the other side of the valley is a beautiful range of mountains and everything green. The anniversary services were the closest thing to the old, 19th century revival camp meetings you can have in Mexico. People came from villages all around and we had four messages each day, two in the morning and two at night, between several preachers. The other four who preached were national pastors whom I do not know, but preached good messages that were a blessing to me, particularly three solid ones on the family.
About 300 turned out on the last night. The church itself has about 50. The people there are so simple and noble in character. There is not light yet in the village, except for the generator used for the church meeting and microphone that would announce throughout the village that that service was starting as well as make public service announcements for village matters. Almost every one in the village is an evangelical as well as those in the surrounding villages.
As there is no television (or radio for that matter), there are no double meanings in their conversations nor sarcasm nor cynicism. It was refreshing to be among people of singleness of heart.
Yesterday, we had our third monthly prayer meeting with seven other preachers in the area. We are praying for revival and for the Spiritual Renewal conference in September. We had a very engaging and edifying discussion of our need for Holy Spirit dependence.
As far as the Christian education building goes, we have just finished the beams that will hold up the roof and in three weeks we should be pouring the concrete for the roof. It should be dried by the second week of June, then the dry wall will go up and we hope to have the windows and doors put in by the end of June. Please pray that the money will come in by the beginning of July so that we may plaster the ceiling, stucco and paint the walls, and put in the tile.
Thank for so much for your prayers,
Clint and Rhonda Rardin
