This live coal was taken directly from off the Altar of fire. Christ is the believer's Altar. It is his sacrifice under the fiery wrath of God that purged our sin. The cleansing power of God unto salvation flows from Christ through the good news of his mercy and grace directly from him. (Isa 40: 1, 2.)

This live coal was laid directly on Isaiah's mouth. Christ was made the sin of his people, that his redeemed might be made the righteousness of God in him. He took our sins in his own body; and he gives us his righteousness in the new spirit created by the Holy Spirit within our old body of flesh. This is the purging of the conscience spoken of in Hebrews 9: 14: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

May he who purged our sin at Calvary and then sat down at God's right hand, also send forth his purging coal into you with the word of everlasting comfort, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
