For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone. Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell. O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them. But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. Psalm 86:10-15
PASTOR'S NOTE Pastor Paul Mahan is scheduled to preach this evening in Kingsport, Tn.! Please continue to pray for the ministry there and for Bro. Paul as he travels and preaches the word of God, the gospel of Christ.
IT PLEASED GOD BY PREACHING A single word, spoken in the strength of God and the power of His Spirit, will accomplish far more than ten thousand words spoken in the power of eloquence, argument, and human zeal. When our Lord is pleased to bless our witness and our preaching, great wonders will be accomplished. It has pleased Him by the foolishness of preaching (not by ceremony, ritual, nor sacrament ) to save them that believe. "Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it."Pastor Henry Mahan
THE WORD OF GOD - THE PREACHER'S POWER If we truly believe the word of God to be His power, then we will use it extensively. If we have felt its power personally, then we will know its sufficiency to do what we desire; i.e., move the hearts of the hearers. Our messages should be from portions of God's word, not from a dream or illustration (which we then attempt to prove from God's word). God does not speak to us, nor will He speak to the people through dreams or illustrations. HE SPEAKS THROUGH HIS WORD. Any message that does not come as a result of God's speaking to us through His word IS NOT OF GOD!
When we say that God has impressed us with something other than His word, it is setting our experience above His word as sufficient to save sinners. He even said that He magnified His word above all His name. Our desire should be that the word of God make an impression on the hearers, not that, they should be impressed with the outline or alliteration. God forbid that the people should forget the text but remember the outline.
So, "he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully" (in season and out, consistently, expositionally) (Jer. 23:28). God's word is a fire and a hammer (Jer. 23:29). It alone can break the heart and purge the dross. Pastor Paul Mahan
HOW IS THE PREACHING OF THE GOSEPL AFFECTING ME? When the Gospel is preached, there are two things always taking place (even though most are unaware of it); some are being prepared for glory, others are being hardened. Some are being brought to the light, some are left sitting in darkness. Some see Christ and His glory; others see no beauty about Him. Some who hear the Gospel have their hearts made tender toward sin; others have their hearts hardened in sin. No wonder we say, "Who is sufficient for these things?" The question we should all be asking is, "How is the preaching of the Gospel affecting me?" Pastor Donnie Bell
COMPLETE IN CHRIST For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power (Col. 2:9-10).
All that is necessary to secure our eternal salvation is to be found in the Lord Jesus Christ (Phil.3:7-9; 4:19). There is a completion, or a complete filling up in Him, so as to leave nothing lacking in the sinner. In the Lord Jesus Christ dwells all the fullness of God (John 1:16). He is perfect and the believer stands perfected in Him (1Cor. 1;30; Col. 1:22). All that is lacking in us by our ruin and sin in Adam is abundantly, freely and eternally supplied to us in the Lord Jesus Christ, "where sin abounded, grace did much more abound" (Rom. 5:20).
His perfect obedience is our righteousness (Rom. 4:6-8; Phil. 2:7-8). His sacrifice for sin is our atonement (Heb. 2:17; 1John 4:10). His word is our instruction (Psa. 119:105; 2Tim. 3:16). His wisdom is our direction (Eph. 1:8; Col. 2:3). His power is our protection (Rom. 1:16; 1Peter 1:5). His blood sacrifice is our justification (Rom. 5:9; 1Peter 1:18). His grace is our salvation (Rom. 3:24; 2Tim. 1:9). His eternal love is our security (Jer. 31:3; Rom. 8:32-39). His everlasting mercy is our hope (Lam. 3:22-26; Titus 3:5). His fullness is our completeness (John 1:16; 2Tim. 1:9). His immutability is our strength (Mal. 3:6; Heb. 13:8). His resurrection is the guarantee of our glorious resurrection (1Cor. 15:20-23; Rev. 1:18). His intercession is the assurance of all our deliverance from sin (Heb. 7:25; 1 John 2:1-2).
Tell me my friend, what could we possibly want for, when the whole Godhead is engaged to make the believer complete in the Lord Jesus Christ, to His eternal glory (1Cor. 1:30-31; Jude 1:24-25).
Carefully read this great promise. "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:19). Pastor Tom Harding
