Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed. For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. Psalm 84:9-12
PASTOR'S NOTE After the morning service, we plan to have lunch together and observe the Lord's Table.
Pastor Henry Mahan will be preaching today in Kingsport, Tn. at 6:00 p.m.!
False Teacher There has never or ever will be a false teacher or preacher come with a title, I am a false prophet. The devil doesn't come as the devil, he comes disguised. The apostle said; "certain men crept in unawares" (Jude 4).
They will come sometimes in "sheep's clothing" or with a false humility but in reality they are a "Diotrophes and love the preeminence".
If the devil doesn't come as a "roaring lion" he will come as an "angel of light," but mark it down he will come and he will come as a deceiver and divider.
But blessed be Our Lord Jesus who said; "My sheep hear my voice and a stranger they will not follow." (Jn. 10:4-5). Pastor Don Bell
HOW DO YOU COME TO CHRIST? I believe that all who come to our Redeemer in saving faith do so PERSONALLY. I wish that I could believe God for my family; but unless a man in his own heart believes on Christ, he will perish. Those who come to Christ will come SINCERELY. A man is not only persuaded that Christ is the way, but in his heart he lovingly and sincerely agrees with God's terms of salvation. "My son, give me thine heart" (Prov. 23:26). It is the heart or nothing in this heavenly marriage. Also those who come to Christ do so RATIONALLY, in knowledge and understanding. They know WHAT He saved them from-sin's curse and condemnation. They know WHO saved them-our Lord Jesus Christ, the God-man. They know HOW He saved them-by His perfect obedience and precious blood. They know WHY He saved them-"according to the good pleasure of His own will" (grace, grace, and more grace). And those who come to Christ come PERMANENTLY, with no intention of ever leaving Him; and, by His grace, with no possibility of ever being forsaken by Him. Pastor Henry Mahan
HOPE THOU IN GOD Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the health of my countenance, and my God. Psalm 42:11.
In six of these eleven verses the Psalmist laments the distress of his soul. Surely the language is that of David and the occasion seems to be when he fled from Absalom. The anguish of his soul is two-fold; his separation from the house of God and the assembly of the just (vs. 2); and, the taunts of his enemies (vs. 3). The sheep of Christ are no strangers to trial and trouble which casts down the soul. However it is the taunts of the wicked that is most disquieting - "Where is thy God?" When undergoing trial how often have we heard, "If he were a child of God would this be happening to him?" How do we deal with a distressed soul?
Hope thou in God - not church membership, ordinances, or a mere knowledge of doctrine, but God Himself. He is a good hope, and a sure hope, for Christ is our hope. He is God manifest in the flesh, the Lord our Righteousness, and all the promises of God are in Him, yea and amen.
I shall yet praise (give thanks to) Him - for the love, mercy and grace which chose, redeemed, called and revealed His Son in me. "I am the Lord, I change not, therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed." "Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him."
Who is the health of my countenance, and my God - He is Emmanuel, God with us, and "His presence is salvation" (vs. 5 margin.). "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." Pastor Charles Pennington
THE AUTHOR OF PEACE For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. (1Cor. 14: 33).
Our God, Who is God, is not the author of confusion, but of peace in all the churches of the saints. God is the God of order, not confusion and tumult, (instability, disorder, commotion) but He is the God of peace. Notice these four things:
1). God is the author of peace. We have peace with God and peace with one another through Christ and the gospel. (Col. 1:20; Rom. 5:1).
2). God is the author of Life. "But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; And killed the Prince (author, marginal reading) of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses" (Acts 3:15; 1John 5:11-12).
3). God is the author of eternal salvation; "And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him" (Heb. 5:9; Heb. 7:25).
4). God is the author of faith. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God ( Heb. 12:2; Isa. 45:21-22). Pastor Tom Harding
