Believer's can not serve the Lord Jesus Christ and the world. That is not my opinion, the Lord Jesus Christ said, "No man can" (Mat 6: 24.) By God's grace the believer is made to know that. Moses knew it. Egypt was the most powerful, wealthiest nation in the world. The leader of that nation held the most powerful office in the world and was the most powerful man in the world. Moses was next in line to step into that office. Yet, by faith, Moses gave it up to follow the LORD.

We have to work in the world to support our families and the local church; we have to live in the world amongst worldly people, but believers must not serve this world. That new promotion may be enticing. You are excited about it. It appeals to our fleshly desire to have our own office, to be in position of authority and so on. But will that position require my time on those days when I can go worship with the Lord's people? There is always something bigger, better and faster on the market for us to buy. But will spending my money for it make me a slave to this world? Will I have to take a second job to pay for it? That college holds the most prestige but is there a true church where Christ and him crucified is preached where my child can worship the Lord? There are so many ways that we can easily be found servants of this world. But there is only one way we serve Christ. That is by turning away from any thing in this world that will come between us and our Lord.
