New Sodom came to town in Belfast on Saturday 2nd of August. This year's event came in the wake of comments from Iris Robinson MP, who holds the Health Portfolio in the Power Sharing Executive, whereby she stated that Sodomite activity was an abomination and she knew of Sodomites who had been cured of their perversion by a Christian psychiatrist. Her remarks stirred up the predictable hornets' nest in New Sodom but, sadly, the sound of silence from fellow members of Parliament and assembly members, apart from those who condemned her, was resounding.
The furore caused sodomites from the mainland to show solidarity with their partners in perversion in Ulster. Peter Tatchell, the notorious home campaigner, alleged in a speech made at a sodomite gathering that William of Orange was a homo.
This year a strenuous effort was made to try and get Christians to take a stand. This was partially successful as some fifty Christians took their stand at the City Hall. They were joined by a number of Christians from the mainland who came to encourage the Ulster brethren, numbers having being low in previous years.
The Word of God was clearly preached for about an hour. Numerous appropriate Scripture banners were displayed and tracts distributed. Some good conversations took place. In any event, New Sodom was left in no doubt as to what the Bible has to say about its behaviour.
The procession itself had several placards referring to Mrs Robinson. She certainly touched a raw nerve. One wonders about the table talk in the Robinson household since Mr Robinson, by virtue of him being first minister, dispenses thousands of pounds to fund sodomite organisations.
There was also a banner representing the Gay Police Association. Who could have foreseen that the gallant RUC would, in a few short years, be sullied with such people in its ranks?
The parade itself was the biggest yet, though numbers were undoubtedly swollen by Mrs Robinson's remarks. From a Christian point of view, numbers were fairly encouraging. Let us hope that next year there will be at least double the number of people taking their stand. There should be thousands in such a place as Belfast.
The Free Presbyterian Church had a witness at St Ann's Cathedral upon which I cannot comment. The more witnesses that take place the better. Let us hope that the counter attack has begun in earnest and may it please God by the power of the Holy Ghost upon the preached Word to cleanse the streets of the United Kingdom from these horrible displays.
