In June, we held our annual youth camp with 140 campers and 55 workers. Our Theme was The Olympics. Campers participated in many events throughout the week. Many decisions were recorded for the glory of God. Eric Ramos preached to the Teens and Jason Brenenstuhl to the Juniors. Honor to God for a great week of camp.
Also in June, we had two college singing groups in from Ambassador Baptist College and New England Baptist College. We celebrated our church’s 49th anniversary with Dr. Roy Thompson, evangelist and former founder and pastor of the great Cleveland Baptist Church. The following week, the picnic tables were packed for our annual church picnic. God gave us a beautiful day to enjoy after a rainy Friday night and Saturday morning.
Evangelistically, Operation Saturation continued with the distribution of FREE CD messages on HOPE. We have CDs of the entire series on Hope to share with those facing special trials and challenges in their life right now. Jesus Christ can take away sin, save a soul, and give that person a fresh start. We’ve received reports of people who have listened to the CDs opening the door to help them.
Pastor Starr has been teaching a series in Sunday School on Faithful Men and on Wednesday nights on The Prayers of Jesus Christ.
In a day when churches nationwide are in a state of flux, giving-in to new philosophy’s of purpose-driven ministry and changing doctrines, Mt. Zion Baptist Church stands and faces the wind to remain the way we have always been—“Church, the way it used to be.” We stress solid Bible preaching and teaching, emphasize individual and family living for Christ, focus on reaching out to our community and the world with the Gospel, and try to guard against the influx of worldliness into the church.
