Desperate, she comes into China with her father and brother. Mom is gone. "Disappeared" they say. Life is unbearable. They make it over the border into China, a true "Paradise" in comparison to the sad land they must leave. In this part of the country many homes have been abandoned. They find a house and move in.

One week passes. Only one week. Arrest and forcible "repatriation" to North Korea. Not welcome here. But this incredible girl refuses to shrivel up and die in her homeland. She returns. By herself.

Thank God for the church of Jesus. All over the world God has sent His people, and spoken to them to win the lost, to help the hurting, to remember the prisoners. It is a group of Christians that notices this brave teen when she comes back to China. They bring her to Hunchun City. They tell her of Jesus, of prayer, of the state of the lost. They plant in her a desire to go back to North Korea when the time is right, and share the Good News of Jesus.

She begins this stay in China with a North Korean woman and a Chinese man. Her life is work and study. She studies Bible in the morning and Chinese in the afternoon! She starts to look forward to the day when she will go home and spread God's Word.

The day of the interview is the first time she has left her home. Two reasons she has been locking herself in: Deathly fear of re-arrest and being sent back to Korea, and, she really enjoys studying God's Word day after day.

So there it is before you again, Western believer. A girl with absolutely nothing and absolutely everything. Would you like to rush in and give her sweets and music and movies and fancy clothes and shoes and a nice house and a driver's license and - and - and... the Western way of life? Would you not destroy her with your gifts?

My hunch is that she would like to give you something too. Because she has so much more to give...

Soon I must stand before God and give account to a crucified Saviour of what I did with my incredible American liberty and wealth. If I even think about boasting or complaining or offering excuses, perhaps he will call to the witness stand this 15-year-old girl. To my eternal shame. God forgive me. God have mercy on the Western Church.
