HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?

How can a person see a promise? The only way is if the promise is a person. The promises of God are in Christ Jesus. These early brethren had not physically seen the Lord Jesus Christ accomplish the redemption of their souls. Yet, they saw him by faith which is the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11: 1.) For faith to be "the evidence" means faith has to have a specific object. That object is Christ Jesus the Lord. They saw all the promises which God made unto them fulfilled in him, even as every believer ever saved has. They saw him by faith.

Abraham is declared the father of believers because he is the first example of how God saves a sinner. When the Lord spoke to Abraham's heart he told Abraham that he was Abraham's Shield and exceeding great Reward. The Lord Jesus declared, Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad (Joh 8:56.) The Shield Abraham saw is the same Shield that every believer sees by faith. Our Shield is Christ who bore our sins in his own body on the tree that we might be spared from the storm of God's wrath. The exceeding great Reward which Abraham saw was Christ the Lord our Righteousness whose has made the believer the very righteousness of God. These early believers all died before Christ was born into this world but they saw him and all God's promises fulfilled in him from afar by faith.

Believer, we have the sure word of God that Christ has come and fulfilled the same promises made to these early brethren on our behalf as well. There are other promises that we wait for such as our Lord's return, resurrection day and the marriage supper of the Lamb. We see these things as did our early brethren, afar off. These promises are in Christ Jesus as well. As believers if we die this night, we will die in faith, not having received these promises, but having seen them afar off. Have you seen him?
