JUDGE GOD FAITHFUL

Hebrews 11: 11: Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. 12: Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

Faith is judging God faithful to perform that which is impossible with us. Sara is an example. Sara was ninety years old. She was past the age of child bearing. Her husband Abraham was 100 years old. Yet, according to God's promise she had a son, named Isaac. From Abraham and Sara, through Isaac, children were born--as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. When Abraham and Sara tried to play a part by turning Abraham to Hagar, it proved to be no faith at all. If we are not convinced that it is impossible for us to save ourselves then faith which trusts God to do the impossible has no place in us.

An unregenerate sinner has no strength to bring forth life. An unregenerate sinner is past the point of being able to do anything for them selves. An unregenerate sinner has promised to give them selves to death and hell. Yet, through the gospel God calls unregenerate sinners to believe on him. Why is that? Because through the message that exalts the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit calls sinners in power which can not be resisted. This power of God provides everything the sinner needs in order to believe on Christ. What is this power of God? The power which God worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead is the same power God exercises when giving spiritual life to a sinner. Ephesians 1:19-20 describes it just that way..."And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places."

May God's operation of grace cause us to judge God faithful to perform that which is impossible with us--our salvation.
