Things Not Seen

Hebrews 11: 7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Have you ever had the thought that if you could hear God speak in those various ways by which God spoke to the old testament saints that you would also believe on him? It is not the manner in which God speaks that causes a person to believe God, it is God speaking the revelation of his Son in the heart that convinces, persuades, and constrains us by his love. His grace through his word causes faith to cry out, "I believe!"

It was Who warned Noah that caused him to believe. God warned Noah of things not seen as yet. Noah had never seen God destroy all flesh from off the face of the earth. Have you ever seen the judgment of God which he promises to come? It had never rained when Noah received God's warning. He had no idea what a flood looked like. We have seen floods but we have never seen the Lord destroy the heaven and earth with a fervent heat as he promises. Noah could not see this ark when God spoke to him; he only imagined how it would appear. Have your physical eyes ever beheld Christ the Ark? Noah had no idea how he would be saved in that ark; who would shut the door? How would he sail a vessel 450 ft long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high? But God told him what he needed to know just like the Lord has told us everything we need to know. Though Noah did not have all the answers, Noah had all the proof he needed. He had God's Word; he had God's promise; he had God's witness; he had God's covenant (Gen 6: 18.)

When we behold our just due in those whom God destroys in wrath, yet we find grace in the eyes of God; when God's covenant Word comes in power to our hearts commanding, "Thou shalt come into the ark..." then we behold that salvation is by grace that it might be through faith that it might be sure to all God's elect. Through faith which God had given to Noah, this sinner in the midst of a sinful people, had all the evidence he needed. Remember faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (v1.) Do you have all the evidence you need?
