February has been packed –literally! The youth have been packing gifts for Pennsylvania service personnel in Iraq. Meanwhile, the ladies of the church have been packing gifts for each of our 57 missionaries. Donations have topped $1600 toward the missionary gifts.
Evangelistically, Operation Saturation began with the initial distribution of FREE CD messages on HOPE. We have CDs of the entire series on Hope to share with those with special trials in their life right now. We want to be a blessing to others as we spread the good news that Jesus Christ can take away sin and give a person a fresh start. Pastor Chris has been training folks in the Faith every Sunday night in “The Footsteps of the Faith” class.
We’ve learned in Sunday morning messages about Satan’s lies in 3 areas of our life. In Adult Sunday School, Shirley Starr has been teaching Biblical principles for young women and mothers on homemaking while Pastor Starr has been exposing the error, buzz words, and effect in our culture of the New Age Movement.
Jay and Beth Smeltzer and their family prepared another wonderful Sweetheart Banquet for our church couples. For 6 weeks, Brad and Seth Peters have directed the boys’ basketball program on Monday nights. What an exciting time to see our boys learn skills and sportsmanship. We also want to thank Pat and Pam Torivio, former members who moved to New Mexico, for continuing to maintain our website. (Our Tri-annual newsletter will be in mailboxes in Airville, Brogue, and Felton the week of March 6 with more information on the church’s activities.)
In a day when churches nationwide are in a state of flux, giving-in to new philosophy’s of purpose-driven ministry and changing doctrines, Mt. Zion Baptist Church stands and faces the wind to remain the way we have always been—“Church, the way it used to be.” We stress solid Bible preaching and teaching, emphasize family living for Christ, focus on reaching out to our community and the world with the Gospel, and try to guard against the influx of worldliness into the church.
If you are looking for this kind of church, do something about it. Serving Christ can be fresh and exciting again. Come and worship with us this Sunday.
