The Gospel Afore Promised

“…the Gospel of God, which he had promised afore by his prophets in the Holy Scripture, concerning His Son Jesus Christ.”

(Romans 1:3)

The Gospel of God that saves our souls, God uses that in the effectual call of the Holy Spirit to bring us to Christ in faith is the same throughout the Word, Old and New Testaments. Everybody who believes in salvation by works in any shape, form or fashion and believes that you have to do anything to gain acceptance and favor with God, is teaching that the LORD Jesus Christ died in vain.

In Romans 1:16-17 the apostle Paul writes of this same Gospel as the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes for therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith. If you are wondering to what righteousness he is referring, look at Romans 10:4: “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness…” HE’s the end of the law. The Gospel does not reveal the law to us as something that we must do to be justified but rather it reveals how the LORD Jesus Christ, the God-Man worked out righteousness equal to the holiness and justice of God. It’s a revealed righteousness that has met all the standards of God’s holiness by Christ Jesus.
