MEDITATIONS IN THE PSALMS, 7-7-24 [An outline of the Psalm A good devotional study when using the scriptures indicated] Psalm 33:6-11 Lesson 2, The Righteous Exhorted to Praise
In verses 1-5 we saw the Excellency of the Lordâs character; here in verses 6-7 we see the Majesty in creation. Not the heaven of heavens where has been His eternal abiding place, but the atmosphere above and galaxies beyond And how were they made, by His Word and His Breath. The triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost joined together to make all things. By the WORD is meant Christ the second person, John 1, âIn the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God, and the Word was God, the same was in the beginning with God.â By breath is meant the Holy Spirit, the same word elsewhere is rendered Spirit. How easy for Jehovah to make the most ponderous orbs, and the glorious angelic world: a word, a breath, and it was done. And what did He make it from; nothing: how in the world can a man believe such; by faith. If He so pleased he could destroy this world and âtake some more nothingâ and make a thousand more. Did you know that it was easier for God to create the universe than it is for man to breathe? I say easier, because man must borrow his breath from his Creator. âAnd God called the dry land earth; and the gathering together of the waters called He seas: and God saw that it was goodâ (Gen1:10). âThe unstable elements like all other elements must be put under law, and confined within bounds that there might be an inhabitable earth for man and all creaturesâ (John Duns 1868). âVast reservoirs are secreted in the bowels of the earth, from which we get our wells of water. What a merciful provision for a pressing needâ (CHS). God knows when its time to replenish the springs and He does so by the rains. How grieving it is to me to hear people complain about the weather. In v.8-11 we see men are bid to fear before Jehovah because His purposes are accomplished in providence, âlet all the earth fear Him.â Do we not wish it so that all the earth fear Him! We live in a day for the most part that âthere is no fear of God before their eyes.â Whatâs happening? (2 Thess.2). âLet all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe âŚâ the Psalmist was not blinded by national prejudice. He not only wanted the nation of Israel, but all the nations in on this worship and homage of his God, I think we could safely say he was mission minded. He desired the heathen to forsake their idols and turn to the one true and living God. âFor He spake and it was doneâ (v9). âAway with your silly theories, give the foolish infidels no place among us, give glory to God all ye nations. He spake and it was done!â Creation was the fruit of a word not a bang! Jehovah said âLet there beâ and it was! âHe commanded and it stood fast.â And He commanded it so out of nothing. Oh the blessed power of His Word! âThe LORD bringeth the counsel to naught.â The Psalmist had a satisfaction of Godâs sovereignty and dominion (10-11). He over-rules all the counsels of men, and makes them contrary to their intention and serviceable to His counsels. ~~Terry Worthan (1938-2022)
