Job 40:11 Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. 12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. 13 Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. 14 Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee. 15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. 16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. 17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. 18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. 19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. 20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. 21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. 22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. 23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. 24 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
God challenged Job to go ahead and use his influence to go after the proud and bring them down. Job had 4 friends that he could not even silence. How would he silence all those who are proud? God was continuing to show Job that he was way out of his lane in his demands and his expectations of God. God certainly could shut down every proud person quicker than we can blink an eye. The amount of evidence that He had given Job of His greatness and wisdom should shut down any doubts about Who God is. It has not done so yet, but the fact is that He will shut down all opposition against Him one day when all the lost will stand at the great white throne and be judged and cast into the lake of fire. Job did not understand why God was not taking them all out now, but Job did not understand the longsuffering of God. He gives every person opportunity to repent and be saved. Job was not a lost man, but he was demanding things that no true child of God should be doing. God is not a Calvinist. That should be obvious to anyone who reads the Bible. Yet there are too many people who claim to read the Bible, who believe the lies of Calvinism. God could destroy every person that that does not get saved in a moment. However, as we have already stated, everyone is given opportunity to repent and be saved. No one will be able to accuse God of being unjust. God continued to challenge Job regarding the proud. Pride is a wicked thing. Proud people are so full of themselves that they refuse to look at how foolish they are. Proud people say and do things that are foolish. Sometimes they get away with it for a time. Goliath was such a man. He boasted of his might. He had the Philistines convinced that he was invincible. He also had most of the armies of Israel convinced that he was invincible. However, there was one young man who knew better. God directed David to take this proud man out. God used a man that was much smaller than Goliath and who did not have the armour nor the weapons of Goliath, to take him out. God showed king Saul and his armies and the Philistines that God is much greater than any boaster. Job needed to understand as well, that God is much greater than he was and Job should just stop and learn of Him, rather than complain about Him. If Job could take care of the proud, then God would confess that Job could take care of himself. Then God would back off and tell Job and others, that Job was alright on his own. The fact is that Job would have been dead if God had not limited Satan’s attacks against him. Job did not know this, because he was not even capable of dealing with the challenges he could see. How could he then deal with the challenges of things he could not see. In verse 15 God turned His attention to Behemoth, a dinosaur. Evolution teaches us that dinosaurs died out millions of years ago and that they never lived at the same time that man did. God would not raise this point with Job if they were not around. If you notice the language used here, God is speaking as though Behemoth was still alive during the time of Job and was eating grass and Job could observe this powerful creature. There have been many attempts made to try to discredit the majesty of this animal. They try to make it to be an elephant or a hippopotamus or a rhinoceros. However, when you read the description of this animal, it does not look like these animals. We do not see this animal today because if they are around, they are not around in most areas of the world, due to the change in climates that God brought about due to the flood. Job lived much closer to the end of the flood than we do. The climates have changed over the years due to God’s work, not man’s carelessness or man’s use of fossil fuels. God gave quite a detailed description of behemoth here. His diet is described, as well as his strength and what he looked like. It we notice the strength of his tail in verse 17, that certainly does not fit any one of the three main choices that unbelievers give for him. This creature also had quite the capacity to take in water. No creature we know can take in that amount of water. This creature was a massive creature that was to be feared. The point that God was making here is that since God made this creature and He knew how to control this creature, whereas Job did not make him nor could he control him, therefore, Job should humble himself and stand in awe of God rather than thinking God needed to jump to his demands. Today, we should also recognize the greatness of God and we should be in awe of Him. This response should humble us and cause us to want to know Him and trust Him. Rather than the many who are still rejecting Him today, those few who know Him, need to exalt Him in all things. We have so many opportunities to do that. We should be happy to be a part of a true church where we can learn the truth and show others that we are not ashamed to identify with the true God. Jesus Christ is the One Who is the Head of every true church. There are so many blessings to be had in being saved and being a part of a true local church. The fellowship with God and fellow saints is something you cannot find anywhere else. The opportunity to get to know other true believers and to be challenged from the Word of God is worth more than you will find anywhere else. The privilege of reaching out to others from the home base of a true local church is also a blessing to be cherished. We need God and His salvation and His fellowship more than most realize. There are so many people who choose such insignificant activities to waste their time at, rather than knowing the truth and being blessed in serving the true God.
Psalm 8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
