"For you, O God, have heard my vows;y ou have given me the inheritance of those who fear your name." Vs5
Even when times are tough, believe that you have the inheritance. Things aren’t always easy. This is the war of faith, and we’re to believe God amidst difficulty.
It does not help to take matters into your own hands. Fighting God’s enemies of despair, depression, coldness, and lust is futile, if we don’t rely on him. We’re only prolonging misery, and adding sorrow to sorrow.
If we’re wise, we’ll take the whole armour of God, including his love for us as sinners… including his promise to do everything. Seek the Lord as one of his children. Seek as having all the privileges of believing.
May he be enthroned forever before God;
appoint steadfast love and faithfulness to watch over him! Vs7
These are our watchtowers - God’s love and faithfulness. Rely on these, and he’ll help. Look to God’s love and faithfulness in prayer. This delivers us from the darkest dungeon and the deepest despair - the steadfast love and faithfulness of God. He doesn’t look upon us helplessly or maliciously. He put away our sins. He’s ready to help in the time of need. He is a saving and a delivering God, all the way through the Christian journey. He can be relied upon in everything.
Look to his love. Believe in it. Look to his faithfulness. Don’t doubt. Receive the goodness of God’s help.
Psalm 61:8 — "So will I ever sing praises to your name, as I perform my vows day after day."
Perform your vows. Do what you've said. Give your life to Jesus, and don’t relent. Remember what you promised in your troubles. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with gladness. Do not go back. Don’t take mercy and run off. Don’t refuse to be thankful. Return to give him glory, and he’ll give you more [Luke 17:11-19]. You’ll prove your faith is real and saving: He hasn't just bettered your circumstances. You don't merely have temporary healing.
We are caught between TWO EVILS: One, we don’t have faith, relying on our works. Two, we don’t have works, relying on empty faith and head knowledge. Let your heart believe, and then let your life show it. Rely on him, and live for his glory.
