“The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to Him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, ‘Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest a while.’ For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.” vs30-31
The Holy Spirit has to speak to us! We cannot do ministry ourselves. It is not about head knowledge but heart knowledge; it isn’t about what OTHERS need, but what we need too, as we open the text. Paul tells Timothy,
1 Timothy 4:16, “Pay close attention to your life and your teaching; persevere in these things, for by doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
We must pay close attention to ourselves, before we can care for others. Our own heart must be stirred to obedience, joy, and love, before we can preach to our people. Therefore, we must rest a while, so the gospel becomes fresh to us, so that ministering is not our mission but walking with the Lord is.
Ministry is the fruit of GOOD RELATIONSHIP with Christ, where our own faults are corrected. Therefore, we must rest a while in reflection, and let the gospel sink home. We must give up our doing for believing and nourishment from the Lord.
Don’t be afraid to rest, particularly after successes. Give yourself time to grow.
