Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the Lord which you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “For there will be peace and truth in my days.”
When judgment comes upon us, we must bow to it. Hezekiah received a judgment because of his pride. His children would be carried to Babylon, but not in his days. He humbled himself upon hearing it.
First, there is peace and truth in our days. Even though sin has ravaged us, and we've offended the Lord, we'll still have peace and truth, if we believe the gospel. He'll pardon us and forgive our sins. He'll deal patiently.
I may have gotten pregnant out of wedlock or contracted sexual diseases. You may have ruined your liver and destroyed your marriage with hard drinking. You may be serving years in prison, or other consequences for former mischief, but TURN TO GOD NOW IN HUMBLE SUBMISSION, and He will lift you up. James 4:10, "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you."
Secondly, peace and truth in your days means experienced blessing. You'll have peace with God instead of war, because He cannot deny the humble soul nor kick a man when he's down.
Lamentations 3:30-31,
"Let him give his cheek to the one who strikes, and let him be filled with insults. For the Lord will not cast off forever."
He cannot humble us to the dust and refuse our prayer. He cannot afflict the person who bows to Him. He must lift him up upon a rock. He establishes his going. He gives him the power of the Spirit, so he can walk honorably now, though he failed formerly. He makes him an example of uprightness and integrity, even though the marks of his past, like bad reputation and gossip linger. He shows everyone who inquires that this man humbled himself and turned to Me. He shows that He forgives and cleanses so others turn to Him in repentance, because there's hope.
Thirdly, peace and truth are your inheritance, do you walk in it?
Don't worry about the past, oh believer! Don't forfeit present comfort because of former sin. Believe the gospel. Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Though He brings lingering consequences, I'll use it to get more grace. Though I must suffer, I will be comforted.
Oh, believer. Do not strike your repentant brother.
2 Corinthians 2:7-8,
"So you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. So I beg you to reaffirm your love for him."
Remember not his former transgressions, when you see wholehearted repentance. He who formerly muddied himself is now clean. Won't you receive him? Put away his evil, for you are not the Judge. God delivered him. Won't you rejoice!
Finally, God promises peace and truth to all who turn. Turn now, and He'll receive you!
