A very simple question for the child of God and so it is a spiritual one. The world occupies this question in their striving to make life more comfortable but note that this is always a horizontal plain. They even try to make death more comfortable. But as the children of God we should look at this question completely different. This Lord's day states "That I body AND soul..." It realizes that we stand in a relationship with God. Things do not "just happen.." We realize we stand in a relationship to God and that sin entered into the picture and so we ask this question, but come to a completely different answer than the world around us. And so in our living and our dying (which is also way different from the worlds living and dying) what is YOUR comfort? How do you find comfort? How are you comforted?
I belong to my Lord Jesus Christ! How beautiful that we are not our own! Think about the concept of being your own once....even dying on your own. What is your comfort when all things break down around you? So comforting to know that we stand FIRMLY on the solid foundation that all things MUST work together for our good because we are the called, chosen, people of God and belong to Him for time and eternity! And when we do die as children of God there is no personal loss as we enter heaven and are with the Lord who gave His life for me and purchased me! We will see our unworthiness when He opens the book of life yet will say to us "enter into my rest!" All because He accomplished all things for us in Christ.
Can you see how devastating the world has it? They are on their own. But you and I have the comfort that we are not our own. We belong to Him both as we live here below and as we take our last breath. How much more comfort could we possibly have?
