Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised. The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens. Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high. Psalm 113:2-5
“Nobody Is Perfect”
Men often make this statement in a feeble attempt to justify themselves before God. Of course, nobody (among the sons of Adam) is perfect. Truth is, men who say such a thing have no idea how far from perfection they really are. The problem is, perfection is exactly what God demands. He can settle for nothing less. Which is why He sent His only begotten Son into this world. The Lord Jesus Christ is God’s perfect man, and He is man’s perfect God. The God-Man. The sinners substitute. The sovereign, successful, surety of His people. Yes, Someone is perfect. Without Him standing in our stead, God’s holy justice will demand our eternal damnation. “Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace” (Ps 37:37). The Preacher’s Task
Our work has about it a joy and delight that even the angels might envy; but at the same time, it has a sorrow and burden that I do not enjoy, nor do I understand why any man would covet it. To preach the gospel of my Lord and Master and to tell others of the good hope we have through His grace is “joy unspeakable and full of glory.” But there is the burden of the Word of God and the response of men which renders us “insufficient for these things.”
1). In preparing to preach, the subject, topic, and text must be revealed.
2). In preparing and preaching, the heart of the preacher must be conditioned for such a task.
3). In the pulpit, fear and anxieties flood the preacher as he realizes what an awesome position and responsibility are his.
When the sermon is ended, and men and women depart to spend eternity in either heaven or hell, depending on whether they have heard and believed or have not heard our gospel, makes us cry with Moses, “Lord, if you go not with us, don’t let us go” into the pulpit.
Brethren, the very least you can do for those who are called to the task of preaching the Word is to PRAY FOR US!
Pastor Henry T. Mahan (1988)
When I get to heaven, I shall see three wonders there: the first wonder will be to see many people there whom I did not expect to see; the second wonder will be to miss many people whom I did expect to see; and the third and greatest wonder of all will be to find myself there.
John Newton
HOW GREAT THOU ART!
“He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.” (Isaiah 42:4). There is a beautiful song in our hymnal titled: “How Great Thou Art.” The third verse of that song says, “And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in - that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin…Then sings my soul!” Once salvation is revealed to a child of God, from that moment forward the soul of that child sings the glory and greatness of the God who saved him or her. The body may break, but the soul will never stop singing! The heart may ache, but the soul will never stop singing! Everything about the physical, mental, and emotional state of the child may be silenced under the overwhelming weight and oppression of sin, but knowing what the blood of Christ has done for sinners will cause the soul of that child to never stop singing, “My Savior God, to Thee; How great Thou art, How great Thou art!” Pastor Gabe Stalnaker
Complete In Christ
“For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power” (Col. 2:9-10).
Christ’s perfect obedience is our righteousness (Phil. 2:7-8). His sacrifice for sin is our atonement (Heb. 2:17). His word is our instruction (2Tim. 3:16). His wisdom is our direction (Col. 2:3). His power is our protection (1Peter 1:5). His blood sacrifice is our justification (Rom. 5:9). His grace is our salvation (Rom. 3:24). His eternal love is our security (Rom. 8:32-39). His everlasting mercy is our hope (Lam. 3:22-26; Titus 3:5). His fullness is our completeness (John 1:16). His immutability is our strength (Mal. 3:6; Heb. 13:8). His resurrection is the guarantee of our final glory (Rom. 4:25; Rev. 1:18). His intercession is the assurance of all our deliverance from sin (1 John 2:1). Tell me my friend, what could we possibly want for, when all the Godhead is engaged to make the believer complete in the Lord Jesus Christ, to His eternal glory (Rom. 8:29-30; Jude 1:24-25).
