“And look, here comes a chariot of men with a pair of horsemen!”
Then he answered and said,
“Babylon is fallen, is fallen!
And all the carved images of her gods
He has broken to the ground.”
Eventually, God will destroy Babylon, and He’ll pour out His wrath on His people’s oppressors. Eventually, chastisement will end and sin will be no more. God will open His lake of fire and hurl in the wicked. We are wise to trust in God through hard times.
Trust Him through chastisement; it is just, so don’t turn away. “For [human fathers] indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness [Heb 12:20.]” Don’t rebel and do foolishly. Have your sins corrected. The Lord gives the parable of two sons: Each was commanded to work, and they both refused. One, however, went after refusing. The other did not go, after agreeing. He said the publicans and the harlots would enter the kingdom before the Pharisees, because they admit their sins. This, we must do.
We can’t fight this great God and blame the messenger; it is better to say, “I am wrong. I have offended, and I will do it no more.” He will EASE the oppression! He’ll draw back His sword. He won’t allow the punishment to continue, and if you’re as helpless as Israel in Baylon, He’ll fulfill His promise with outside help. Christ shall deliver, and He will give peace.
Secondly, soon, God’s wrath will come on the wicked. Don’t draw back. “Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him [Heb 10:38.]” Just a little while of service here leads to eternal pleasure. Hold on, or He’ll have no pleasure in you, and neither will we: The righteous will say, “There were not of us. They drew back, because they had no root in themselves, so a little pain caused them to cast away eternal life! They chose compromise and the wide way that leads to destruction. They turned back [Ps 78:9].”
Do not cast your hope away so easily. He’ll make you able to bear it! He will draw near. Look up to your hope in Christ and receive its power!
