The Path of the Upright - Proverbs 4:18

As Solomon reflects on wisdom, he gives us this beautiful image. Anyone who has ever driven east before the dawn knows what Solomon is referring to. This is the path of the righteous. The more we walk along this path, the more light we receive. In other words, the more we come to understand God's Word and apply it, the more our eyes become enlightened.

The writer of Hebrews expresses it this way - For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil (Hebrews 5:13-14). As we apply godly wisdom in our life, we will grow in wisdom. As we start this journey in wisdom, it starts off like the dawn with light coming over the horizon. But as we continue, the light becomes brighter and clearer like the noon day. As the light of wisdom dispels darkness, we are able to see clearly the straight way that leads to life and avoid the crooked paths. The brightness of the noon day light cast a dark shadow to help us see the vileness of sin.
